Looking at the photo below of my dining room do you notice anything different?
Here is a photo from a few weeks ago. Do you see the difference now? I did something I had been wanting to do for a long time and I love the change.
I painted the base of the table!
I used Amy Howard One Step paint in French Blue. This photo is showing the second coat.
You can choose to wax or not to wax, but I wanted to bring out the detail and make the paint look old so I used some Annie Sloan clear and then dark wax that I had on hand.
Mr. Savvy frowned upon me painting this, but I caught him standing and staring at the table after I was done and he said good job. He should know by now to trust my judgement.
I made a slight change on the table by trading the basket on the table with this old berry crate.
I still love using Annie Sloan paint, but this Amy Howard One Step worked well, too. I bought a sample jar for $15.99 and only used half of it to do two coats on this.
I was not provided the product. Just sharing my latest project.
I have also painted another piece of furniture and will share that soon.
I think I am in nesting mode with fall coming on.
I hope y'all have a wonderful Thursday and you will love tomorrow's favorite room. It is even going to be in This Old House magazine's October issue. It may be out already. So be sure to return to check it out.

I knew it was only a matter of time! Looks fantastic ... love the vignette on top, too! Glad Mr. Savvy approves, too. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the painted legs, Kim. Yes, Mr. Savvy should just relax and enjoy your talent! LOL! Of course, if he's going to take over, he may need to pay close attention to your every move. ;)
ReplyDeleteYES, those benches are SO FUN! I had to wait a month for them to get here and I was getting most impatient. Especially when I also found them online and it said they could ship in just a couple of days. Sometimes that's what you get for trying to do business with local stores. {{sigh}} But, I'm glad they are here and I love them!
I ALSO LOVE that pot of lavender!! blessings ~ tanna
That looks great Kim!!
ReplyDeleteYour husband should trust you? Hey . . . tell him I would trust you to come in and do anything you wanted to do in my house! He should just close his eyes and let you go. This looks fabulous, and I love how the blue background of the cabinet sets things off. Charming.
ReplyDeleteOh, how sweet of you to say. Thanks!
DeleteLove it. I have a similar table and have been wanting to paint it. I was going to paint the whole thing but I like how you left the top. Thanks for the inspiration! I need to just do it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I love the mix of stain and paint. Those Mr.'s can be slow learners LOL

ReplyDeleteKris
OH! So pretty, Kim! It really does look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful Kim. Luv the vignette as well :)
ReplyDeleteHey Kim--next time I'm in Atlanta, I think I should pay for a class with YOU on using these chalk paints! I just can't seem to "get it!" Maybe it's just too many years with the standards and knowing exactly how to manipulate THEM. You always get a GREAT outcome--so maybe YOU should be a teacher!
ReplyDeleteCatherine
Kim this looks great and I love what you did for the center of the table!
ReplyDeleteCindy
Dear Kim, I love it. You are so talented and handy. I need to try some of these ideas at home too. It looks so very nice. Catherine xo
ReplyDeleteLove the painted base. Mr. Savvy should trust you by now....
ReplyDeleteThat looks very pretty! It coordinates well with your other painted furniture in the room. I haven't tried that brand of paint yet. I like that it's a one coat paint! Looking forward to seeing tomorrow's feature!
ReplyDeleteThe base looks great, but that room is gorgeous no matter what color you paint the legs.
ReplyDeleteReally like the new painted legs, looks beautiful in your dining room. Great choice!!
ReplyDeleteIt's splendid Kim. One coat would be swell for me.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I'm still scared of chalk paint. I have several hand-me-down pieces of furniture I'd love to try it on though.
ReplyDeleteKim, I get the same reaction from Hubby, every time I mention painting the bottom of our kitchen table. I'm going to show him your post. Who knows, I may get mine painted yet... and the chairs, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat change/s, Kim.
ReplyDeleteHaven't tried Amy Howard one step - will have to try soon.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Looks great Kim. I have some of their milk paint I bought at the beach but have not played with it yet.

You were right to go light! :) Love how it ties in with your cute hutch too! Beautiful room...
ReplyDeleteWell, I was gonna say you changed your underwear but then I saw that you had painted the table! It looks really great. I have one in our dinette with a painted base and wood top, too and I love the look. I have never heard of that paint---nor seen it anywhere. Wondering how you liked it comparing it to AS...xo Diana
ReplyDeleteIt looks great...I love it with your hutch...so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe table looks gorgeous... It really makes the top pop and the whole table looks a lot lighter and more coherent wih your room. I have an ugly dining-room table and wanted to change it, but I can't find one that fits in my tiny room and I was thinking of painting the legs... NOw I know I must do it!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!! You are such an amazing DIY Decorista!!
ReplyDeletePoppy
Beautiful job! I'll have to check out that paint product. I love the change.
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented...Mr. Savvy needn't have worried! Now if I did it, it would be another story. It looks like that's the way it was meant to be.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I've never tried Amy Howard but I think you just convinced me to give it a shot. My husband does the same thing at our house...questions what I'm doing the whole time I'm tackling a makeover, scrunches up his face like he's thinking, "This woman is crazy", and in the end loves it. Silly boys. Will they ever learn? Lovely makeover!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Kim!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it!! Now I would paint the bench legs to match.
ReplyDeleteI am new and hope this goes through. Love the dining table. So much personality, Great job!
