The butcher blog legs got a fresh coat of red chalk paint and I literally painted this in less than an hour in my pajamas the other day. When the idea strikes I usually go with it if I have the paint.
I never was truly in love with the green legs and I think the red is so much cuter.
I think it was crying out for red. It goes with all the other red accents in here like the plaid rug...
....and the red tool caddie....
...and even with the red salt and pepper mills and the red produce basket on the tray next to the cook top.
The cute little vintage breadboard and French torchon were gifts from Mary Alice when I went to Shirley's for the Liberty Antiques Festival. That was so sweet of her.
Cute little monogram on the torchon.
Fresh apples from my trip to the apple orchard sit in my vintage red colander.
These are good snacks to grab if I need a little something and these will keep me on track.
Two coats of paint and then I used mineral oil since I was out of hemp oil. Seems to work well.
Yep, I like the red much better.
Yes, the red is so much better...and, I don't think you're crazy, painting things on a whim. I do the same thing...glad to know it's not just me!

Love the red, it looks fabulous. The red is such a great accent in your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI love it red! That's the cutest little butcher block! Where dd you get it? I'm also glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks about changing things up non-stop! My husband always says, "Does that brain ever stop?" ...I hope not! Lol love your kitchen Kim!! Xo, Kathy @The Daily Nest
ReplyDeleteKathy, I got it last year at a salvage place. Thanks
DeleteDon't think you are crazy since they have not taken you away yet....I LOVE the red legs!...you have so many red touches in the room and the new color of the legs is perfect.....so you are safe for now!! :)
ReplyDeleteJust love the gifts from Mary Alice...and I remember that beautiful red colander was from her shop at Rust and Feathers. Love the makeover of the butcher block!!
I love the new look. It is such a sweet piece for your kitchen. I am so in love with your step-back cupboard, too. Deb
ReplyDeleteMuch better red!
ReplyDeleteRed was a great choice Kim!
ReplyDeletei think it just needs a little black on it. it looks very flat and i think adding some black will give it more life and not be so close to the floor color but i like it better then the green.
ReplyDeleteI've never noticed that piece in your kitchen - it is darling and I'm loving the red!
ReplyDeleteIt looks perfect! You are right, it looks so much better with all of your red accents. Your kitchen always looks so warm and inviting Kim.
ReplyDeleteAll of the red accents are brought out even more since this change...love it.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has a butcher block like that. It came from my friend and it came from her family so we know it is at least 100 years old. I really like the painted legs on yours. That might be something she could do with hers, too. Love the red and think it looks better this way. It does pick up all the bits and pieces of red in your kitchen. I expect to see Mr.SSL coated with paint one of these days to match the decor!;>)
ReplyDeleteThe red legs on your butcher block are perfect with all of your other pops of red in the kitchen. I loved seeing a different angle in your kitchen with the hanging pot rack...the butcher block is a wonderful unique piece in the middle.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
It was crying out to be red! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteOoo it does look lovely with red legs! Like you say it picks out the other red bits and looks so warm and inviting! J9 x
ReplyDeleteGreat Choice! The red just seems to naturally fit in . It all looks so nice.
ReplyDeleteI like it much better with the red - it really pops!!
ReplyDeleteI love the red and I also love how bold you are with chalk paint. It is addictive, isn't it -- and one jar goes a long way!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the red....I would have never thought to hang a bread board on the side.

i love the legs painted red. you are too funny. just don't paint the dog when the mood strikes.
ReplyDeleteI love the red...it is my favorite color and I use it with abandon throughout my kitchen, breakfast room, etc. I noticed in your original post about the butcher block that you had lavender on top of it. I ordered three sprays of lavender from decor steals and opened it yesterday. It was falling all over the place. What to do???
ReplyDeleteIt will lose a lot of pieces the dryer it gets. Not sure what you can do. Maybe spray with hairspray.
DeleteI agree. The red just goes better....since you have other red touches in the room. Good choice.
ReplyDeleteSheila@mykentuckyliving
You make me laugh...I totally get it though...your creative and your visual...things will always be changing!
ReplyDeleteIt does look adorable and I love all the red accents...but I know next year the whole kitchen could be black and white....you go girl!
Hi Kimmie! Oh, you're so right! The red legs just look perfect in your kitchen! Love it!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
shelia ;)
HI Kim- I love that you did this in your jammies! Looks great! laura
ReplyDeleteRed--pretty--better!! Makes a better statement with the other red accents. No explaining to do. I drive my husband crazy with ideas and projects--although I am not as good as you are at completing them so quickly. Have to say again--my favorite home and blog...
ReplyDeleteIt's adorable! Love the red :)
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned using mineral oil once the block was painted. Do you mean you rubbed it on the red painted areas or on the butcher block itself? LindaLee
ReplyDeleteI used it previously on the butcher block and used it on the legs instead of wax or hemp oil since I was out of hemp oil.
DeleteI think EVERY room cries out for a little red! Very cute. Love all the little French Country touches in there.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I love when painting on a whim strikes! Love it dressed in red!
ReplyDeleteLook great,Kim! Love the red!
ReplyDeleteI'm a red junkie...it looks great on your butcher block. It's the perfect accent. It adds just the right amount of kick! ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, the red legs are the ticket! Love your red accents in the kitchen. Great gifts from Mary Alice!
ReplyDeleteThe red is perfect. I love the almonds in the jar!
ReplyDeleteRed is always fun! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who sometimes paints in her jammies. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt definitely looks better in red! I love that you painted it in your pajamas, lol! I know exactly what you mean about things popping into your head -- that very same thing happened to me with my front door. One day I just looked at it, and thought it needed to be red.
ReplyDeleteYour legs look great Kim, lol the color fits in just perfectly with your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteAs always you chose the right and perfect color and finish for you piece!
ReplyDeleteI sure believe you that it happens that way. Happens to me all the time too. The difference is that you actually get out the paint and brush and make it happen. Me, I continue to walk by whatever it is for a year thinking the same thing.... that would look great in a shade of ______ and never get it done!
