Well, I think I have finally nagged Mr. Savvy enough to make him break down and agree to buying a new mattress. I have been waking up with hip and back pain for weeks, no months, and I am pretty sure it is from our very old mattress. Forget the eight years time to replace like they say in the ads. We are way past eight. It's more like eighteen! I told him since we need a new mattress and box springs that we really need to switch to a king size instead of a queen. We are getting older and he sleeps rather restlessly sometimes and I need my sleep and my space! So since we are in the process of getting a new bed and all the bedding that goes with it I thought I better show you what my bed looks like at the moment before it all changes.
This is how it has looked for several weeks. I decided to bring my cow pillow in here for a bit and I love it with the quilt in the same colors at the end of the bed.
I bought the knit pillows recently on sale at the Pottery Barn outlet and love using them as Euros even though they aren't. Vintage French ticking pillows in front and then the cow pillow.
So after all the bed parts arrive we will be moving this bed and setting up the new one. Of course all this is starting the domino effect again.
Stay tuned.
Happy Columbus Day and have a great week!
Happy Columbus Day and have a great week!
Can't wait to see the new bed...and of course the new bedding that will adorn the bed. Glad that Mr. Savvy caved!...Happy Columbus Day.
ReplyDeleteLove your Pottery Barn Knit pillows and the cow pillow with the quilt ! Perfection ! Enjoy your new bed !
ReplyDeleteI understand the need for a new mattress myself! However, we couldn't manage a new set right now so I bought a 4" memory foam mattress and it solved my achy back and shoulders! Now I am sleeping comfortably and hoping this will help us put off the new mattress for a few years. But I am betting you are pretty excited about purchasing new bed linens!
ReplyDeleteLinda, we added the memory foam topper and other pads the last few years. Time for a new one and a bigger one.
Deletethanks
I have the same PB quilt and love all the colors in it too! I really liked how you mix and matched all the pillows to go with it. Where did you get your headboard? I'm looking for a neutral one just like it. Do you remember the fabric color?
ReplyDeleteSusan, it came from Home Decorators Collection a few years ago, but they still carry it. Comes in different styles and fabrics. I think my fabric was called oatmeal linen or something like that.
DeleteThanks Kim! I'll check out Home Decorators. Maybe I'll be getting a new headboard in the near future!
DeleteSleep Number beds are great. You might want to try one,
ReplyDeletewe desperately need a new mattress too....ours is about 12 years old and my husband is actually the one saying we need to replace it! we do have a king size and let me tell you, it's wonderful....like having your own zip code! he has sleep apnea (sp?) but still moves around a lot so i end up going to another room sometimes but i don't think you can go wrong with a king size.
ReplyDeletelove the cow pillow and your upholstered headboard......
ReplyDeletefunny, we have actually been looking for new mattresses as well. I want a sleep number but they are soo expensive. let me know what you end up with. love those cable pillows.
ReplyDeleteLaura, my sister and BIL swear by the sleep number. So much so that not only do they sleep on one in their home, but they put one in their vacation condo. My hubby and I will have to go try theirs out before we start looking. LOL
DeleteAll your bedding! You will have something new to shop for. We should probably start looking around for a new mattress ourselves and I absolutely hate to even think about it!!! Although after we bought our camper, we had a mattress custom made by a local shop. We needed a queen but about 4 inches shorter. We like that mattress, although we've never slept on it for any length of time. Will be interested to see what you get. We're very happy with queen size though and honestly we seem to end up towards the middle and each other anyway! I'd hate to give up our metal bed. You can do a mattress searching tuturial for us. Make sure to take plenty of pix of you and Mr. Savvy trying them out! hahaha!!
ReplyDeleteOh you will LOVE having a king size bed! When it's time to get a new mattress is the perfect time to upgrade too. That's what we did years ago. It was so expensive though that we ended up just getting a mattress and box springs and not a real headboard etc for a while after that. Because you have to get ALL new linens and king size pillows etc. It's a very expensive change, but well worth it. You will never be able to sleep on a smaller bed again!
ReplyDeleteYou will LOVE a king size mattress! You'll wonder how you ever slept before on a queen! Also I love Pottery Barn sheets...Heaven!!! Enjoy your new bed!! Nighty night!! Xo Kathy@The Daily Nest
ReplyDeleteGetting a king size bed is life changing:) Of course decorating it will be fun:)
ReplyDeleteI recently wrote a post called The Mattress Wars because we have been through the same thing. I am loving the new BeautyRest. We switched to a king about 20 yrs ago, because my husband is a rough sleeper, and I was tired of dodging flailing limbs and getting bruised if I didn't. We both sleep so much better!
ReplyDeleteOMG, glad to hear my husband isn't the only one beating me up at night!
DeleteYou're in for sticker shock...unless you get big discounts from your sponsors! Good luck and good fun ahead making your selections on the bed & bedding. You'll love a king (and of course Mr Savvy, too)!
ReplyDeleteEverything is already purchased and all at great prices. Just waiting for it all to come in. I knew it would all cost more.
DeleteOh, and I wish I had sponsors for this stuff. Nope!
DeleteCan't wait to see the new look! We've had a king for 8 years now and I sleep so much better by having more space around me. I think you will, too!
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of upholstered headboards...I like yours!
ReplyDeleteWe have the sleep number bed and love it...its worth the price!
ReplyDeleteI used to work for a furniture store who sold mattresses. The one true tip I can give you is go to a store who encourages you to lay (lie?) never could keep that straight... Test the mattresses. You should lay on it the way you sleep. If you arena side sleeper or a stomach sleeper you won't be sure if all you do is lay on your back or sit on the edge. Our rule of thumb was to be on a mattress for twenty minutes. If comfortable that long you will more likely be happy with it for a longer period of time.
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteAfter the first night on the new King size mattress the only regret you will have is not buying one sooner! Its like night and day compared to a queen size. You and your hubby will sleep more peaceful and better with all the extra room.
we're doing the same thing with this move. Starting over with a bigger bed poses lots of decisions, I'm hoping to use some of the same linens on a bigger bed. Can't wait to see how you make the transition.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see how you style the bed! I have a king (love it!) but can't seem to get the pillows right!
ReplyDeleteYour bed looks so pretty Kim with the pillows and quilt...can't wait to see your new one!
ReplyDeleteThat quilt looks so perfect with your cow pillow! Hope you love your new mattress!
ReplyDeleteDear Kim, I think your room looks so pretty and welcoming. I hope that the new mattress helps your back to feel better. It it does it will all be worth it.
ReplyDeleteBlessings dear. Catherine
Our bedroom just wasn't made for a king sized mattress, but there will be one at Tahoe. You'll wonderr why you didn't get a new mattress sooner. It really does make a difference on how you feel! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI love your domino effects...a good mattress is important!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Once you have a king bed you'll never go back! I hope you share what kind of mattress you end up with - we're going on about 16 years with ours so have talked about getting a new one too.
ReplyDeleteYour beds are always dressed beautifully! I know you're going to Love your new bed.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
we are in the same boat!! We have a queen Tempurpedic but have outgrown our newlywed queen size. I'd love to know what mattress you are getting, as I am sure you are spending lots of time researching! I am not sure we are going back to foam. Waking up burning hot is not my ideal kind of sleep. Can't wait to see your new bed!!!! xox
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteYou will love having the king size bed. We just got a sleep number bed last year and what a difference it makes in your aches and pains and sleep patterns. Terry has it set for him and I have my side set for me. We both get a good nights sleep with our individual numbers. Best investment we ever made. I cannot wait to see your new bedding.
Kris
This is giving me the impetus to restart naggin my hubby for a new bed. We have a queen and the mattress and boxspring are over 20 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!! UGH, it KILLS me. I also want MORE SPACE. He ends up right by my ear snoring into it and I end up going to the guest room. Can't wait to see the new bed and bedding!!! I know it will be beautiful. I want a King size too!!!
ReplyDeletePinky, I feel your pain. I have been going to the guest room on and off for years. Got him a mouth piece for the snoring, but sometimes he talks and fights in his sleep and I just have to leave to get some rest in the other room. Just start nagging!!
DeleteWe switched to a king after we sold our last home and I love it. I have your same headboard, in the king size. I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
ReplyDeleteI'm "overdue" too! Hoping to hold out until after construction. Can't wait to see what you do...you're often my inspiration...this time will be no exception! xo
ReplyDeleteWe switched to a king about 4 years ago, and we both love it! My only issue is finding duvets, matalesse spreads, etc. that are wide enough! My mattress is high, and the one in my guest room is even higher, so I am always on the search for a large drop on the sides for these covers. I hate it when the mattress is not completely covered! I know you like Pottery Barn, but theirs are always too short on the sides for my beds! Can't wait to see what you have chosen!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Kim! LOVE the sweater knit pillows!
ReplyDeleteA new bed will make a difference. We replaced ours this year. Love the look of your bedding, and you know I'm forever in love with that cow pillow.
ReplyDeleteHave fun shopping. We bought a king sized Sterns & Foster about 5 years ago and it is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. It feels like it is down-filled even though it is not. I love having a king-sized bed, too. No going back once you get one!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your new bed all dressed out! xo Diana
Your bed looks so cozy with those knit pillows! I think we're due for a new one, too. I hate mattress shopping, laying on those beds in the store is just so weird! Anxious to see what you choose.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes! Buy a new mattress! We did, and I'm sleeping like a baby again!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing what you choose for bedding... a new mattress is a wonderful thing! We replaced ours last year. Oh, also wanted to tell you how beautiful your new photo is - you look wonderful!
Warm regards,
Ruth
Love that cow pillow! I am very jealous! Our mattress is 19 years old....and yes we need a new one too so does my daughter! Hoping to get a new one....soon? A king size bed is the way to go.We have a king size and I can't imagine sleeping in anything smaller.Nice and roomy :-)
ReplyDeleteCould you please share where the Cow Pillow can be purchased....LOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I purchased that two years ago at the High Point Furniture Market.
DeleteHi! We recently purchased a headboard similiar to your queen tufted headboard and are looking for new bedding. I love your bedding especially those cable-knit ivory pillows! Is your quilt white or off white? Trying to replicate your look and couldn't tell what color it was. Love it!
ReplyDeleteOff white.
DeleteThanks
Thanks! Do you remember where you purchased the off white quilt? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe Pottery Barn outlet last year.
DeleteHi, I know your post is 2 years old but I'm just now seeing it and would like to copy this design in my master bedroom. I know the gold/red quilt is from Pottery Barn but it's no longer in stock. Do you remember the name of the quilt? Maybe I can find a king size out there if I can do a search by its name. Thank you for any help you can give. Great bedroom!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Liz, I have no clue what the name of it is. I bought it so long ago.
