If you follow me on Instagram then you saw that I started painting this bench last Sunday. On a whim I tried it in my bedroom and loved it, but not the black color. Out came some paints and waxes on hand and I got to work. This poor bench has been painted several times.
I painted two coats of Coco ASCP then added a lighter gray to the raised details.
Then there was clear wax, dark wax, gold guilding and sanding. Layer after layer.
The vintage French bench that was at the foot of the bed has found a new spot.

Beautiful new color. Its very pretty!
ReplyDeleteGoodness - I love the depth of colour you've achieved on your bench - beautiful. I have a home for one just like it ;0) J9 x
ReplyDeleteI think you will be happy with this latest incarnation for a long time. It looks like you painted the cane also which was probably just what it needed as the original stain was uneven and detracted from the overall look. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYour bench is beautiful! Love its new color combination.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
You have a wonderful bench. It is so versatile. I love the new color but I liked it black too. I like how some of the black is peaking through the new color.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous "again" Kim...love all the dimension of color!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
Love your bench and the new color...
ReplyDeleteWow, Kim, this is just gorgeous! I really need to get into the furniture painting game, but it does intimidate me. Not sure why, given that I do draw and paint, but somehow the oversized nature of furniture scares me. You did a fabulous job here with the mix of paints, colors, wax and distressing. Well done!! Its such a lovely bench to start with. Is it old or new?

ReplyDeleteAdore the new paint job, so much beautiful texture!
ReplyDeleteLove it.
ReplyDeleteWhy stop painting it when you do such a nice job each time? It's a cat with 9 lives.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who teaches furnture painting, I'd say, "bravo"! Looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMy mom has a bench like this, and your idea may be just what it needs to give it that updated look. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteBTW- my blog isn't updating on your blog list. Something is whacky with it, so if you have a minute, you can try to re-list it at: www.fairhopesupply.com/feed thanks, and have a wonderful autumn weekend!
I did remove and add your url back in and it did not change anything. Your feed may be too big. Mine was last year and had to be fixed.
DeleteWow Kim, the bench looks so wonderful in those colors.. You can't go wrong with the Annie Sloan paint, its such a great product to work with!
ReplyDeleteThe bench looks perfect and I adore the way you can brought up the details of a piece thanks to your painting skills.

Would you be willing to share your bedding sources? I've looked in your feed and your master bedroom reveal looks like the bedding is different... I would LOVE to find a similar striped duvet cover, and is that the diamond quilt from Pottery Barn? LOVE your style, thanks for sharing!

I haven't revealed the new look in the bedroom yet and I will share resources soon. In the meantime the duvet is from Ballards and the quilt is Restoration Hardware and I got it at the outlet.
DeleteYour bench looks great in every color that you've painted it - but I do like this one best, with the black as the runner-up.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that bench Kim! So French...and so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteExquisite.
ReplyDeleteI love this bench and your final finish so much, I featured it as a Friday Favorite today. I hope you stop by to see how I bragged about it.
