Did y'all know choosing a new mattress is like test driving a new car? That's the way it has felt for me. You walk in a mattress store like Mattress Firm and there are a sea of mattresses before you. So where to start. Well, hopefully you get someone very knowledgeable to help you out with this big decision.
We have five Mattress Firms very close together near the mall we shop at. I didn't know which store I was going to and just pulled into the parking lot at the first one I saw. I'm glad I did because our salesman, Stacy, was very helpful and very patient while I tried out a lot of mattresses. We, or rather I, (Mr. Savvy did not test drive the mattresses with me) chose an innerspring one first and we slept on it for two weeks and it just wasn't working for us. No problem you can switch it out for another one until you get it right. We didn't want to spend a fortune and mattress sets can cost an arm and a leg. So we let Stacy know right up front that we needed a middle of the road priced set. Of course he had me try out the most expensive Tempurpedic one when we walked in the door.
After going back to the store and talking to Stacy again I tried more mattresses out and a new set was delivered and the first set picked up.
Now we are trying out a memory foam mattress by Sealy and I hope this one is a keeper.
Mattress Firm will also beat any advertised prices plus an extra 10% off if you find the same mattress cheaper than what they sell it for.
I wanted to share some peeks at some changes in our master. The new bed sort of started a snowball effect and it is almost done. I still would like a chandelier some day.
I love my new headboard and bedding and I'm sure loving the size of the bed. Wow, there is so much more room and I wish we had switched long time ago. The mister is not too wild about this huge bed.
So far so good with this new mattress and I sure hope we don't have to switch it again, but I find comfort knowing we can if needed.
Mr. Savvy said maybe this will be our last mattress. Huh, I don't think so. I plan on living more than eight years, I hope. He said we had the last one eighteen years. I still hope I'm around a lot longer than that, too. :)
Disclosure: I received a discount on the new mattress set, but all opinions are my own.
Full master reveal not too far off.

I hate buying mattresses! Good for you to try and send it back~ we invested in a tempurpedic and the only way I got it comfortable was to put a big poofy bed pad on it because it is so hard. Middle of the road is the way to go! Sleep tight

Love the pillows and all of the sneak peeks...maybe I need to make a trip back to the pillow store to snag some of those gorgeous cheetah pillows....hope the new mattress works out...the mirror is fabulous too!!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find those gorgeous cheetah pillows! Love, love, love!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find those gorgeous cheetah pillows, Kim? Love, love love!
ReplyDeleteYour pillows look so elegant! Looking forward to seeing the full bedroom reveal. Jimmy and I don't like a memory foam style mattress. We slept on one in a condo during vacation last year. We thought we liked it at first, but by the end of the week, we were missing our mattress back home. It seemed too firm for our liking. Everyone is different though, so it may be just right for you.
ReplyDeleteYour peeks are great! Can't wait to see the whole thing come together. I really love our mattress-it's a Stearns and Foster and so comfortable. I do love a king bed and would have a hard time downsizing now, I think.
ReplyDeleteWhat IS it with MEN? MyHero says the same thing when we get something...like...well, this might be the last car we buy! WHAT is WRONG with them? Well, it may be his last one because I may do him in if he keeps that up! lol Have a great day. Hope you got a good nights sleep!!!!
I already know I don't like memory foan because it is too hard. I have had the "W" bed for 1 1/2 years and it is already indented and I feel like I'm going to roll off the bed at night. I need a new bed and thought I might try Mattress Firm but they are everywhere in Atlanta and I would like to know which store you used. We were just at Blackberry Farm and they have put Latex Beds throughout the property. It was a wonderful bed but way-y-y too expensive and I can't even find a place that sells them here.
ReplyDeleteIt is so frustrating to be Sleepless in Atlanta :-)
I went to the one on highway 20 across from Best Buy. It is in the strip mall where Arby's is.
DeleteLinda! I live very near Blackberry Farm!
DeleteIt is so beautiful there. I bet the leaves are turning now. We went mid-September and they weren't turning but it was still lovely. Lucky you!
DeleteA good mattress is so important! It really even affects our health. I think it's getting close to time for us to start looking. Not sure what we will go with. We have a travel trailer (camper) and we had a custom queen made for it (it's actually a couple of inches shorter than a standard queen) and we sleep good on it, so we may go back to them. We took a trip a couple of weeks ago and slept on a memory foam mattress and neither of us liked it. I came home with my back hurting! My sis and her husband have two sleep number mattresses (one in their vacation home), and they love them so we will probably check those out too. Poor Mr. Saavy. I hope he gets to where he likes the bed. Love chandies, but I will never give up the ceiling fan in our bedroom - another thing that helps me sleep good! LOL
ReplyDeletetina, he loves this one. Me not as much as he does. It is getting better though. My mom has the sleep number and they love it.
DeleteI actually was referring to your comment about him not liking the huge bed. LOL But glad he is liking the mattress. Hope you will too. Glad you hear another vote for the sleep number.
DeleteFinding a good mattress is like finding a pair of comfortable shoes. It's such a hard decision. We just got a new mattress in August. We purchased a TemperPedic Cool Touch with the pillows. I would have never made this purchase but the store offered us 5 years interest free. It is so comfortable and because it doesn't have the springs I don't feel my husband tossing around and not to mention if he's snoring I can just hit the remote and raise the head of the bed up. It works wonders and we both get a restful night,. Good Luck Kim, I hope you have found the one!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteMattress shopping is one of the hardest tasks in the world! I found out that going in a store and lying on different mattresses for a few minutes is not really "testing" a mattress. You really have to sleep on a mattress for a few nights to know how its going to feel.
We bought a custom comfort memory foam mattress about 6 years ago that are made locally at a factory in our area and come highly rated. My mother had one and we slept on it for a few nights and it was super comfortable. When we purchased ours it was fine at first but after a year the foam wasn't recovering properly so they allowed us to trade it for a newer technology quick recovery foam. Well, from day one it slept like a brick. After several months, I contacted the company and told them how unhappy I was. Finally, we went back in and picked out a higher end innerspring/memory foam combination mattress and paid the difference. It has slept wonderful and we couldn't be happier. So I guess the third time is the charm! Don't give up Kim... you will find the perfect mattress. Keep us posted on the new Sealy memory foam.
Yes, I think I should have gone with the innerspring memory foam top combo.
DeleteMattresses are very expensive.
ReplyDeleteWe ended up spending a fortune on a organic latex bed with an organic wool topper....however, it is supposed to be good for around 25 years! It is and has been fabulous. I didn't like the temperpedic either, however they have new styles that are interesting.
Recently, we went shopping for pillows. There is a company where you do the same type of shopping for pillows, and they fit you for a pillow. He chose a temperpedic type of pillow with gel and I fell in love with an organic latex.....
Nothing like a really good night's sleep.
Having a good mattress is very important. My parents first bought a spring mattress for my room at their cottage... As I'm a bit skinny, I could feel each and every spring in my body... They changed it for a foam one! I can't wait to see the changes in the bedroom!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the whole room come together. When we were moving into the new house we bought a new mattress and box spring. Ours was too old. I remember when we walked the man that helped us, wish I could remember his name. He asked what kind we were looking for and I said not to firm and not too soft. I said medium rare and he pointed we laid on it and bought it. He said it was the quickest sale ever. We love our mattress.
ReplyDeleteCindy
We bought a Temperpedic and LOVE it. They say it will last 20 years so to me it's worth the price because I no longer have back pain like I did with spring mattresses. I can't wait to see your reveal!
ReplyDeleteMr.Savvy dosn't like the new mattress cause you are too far away on the other side of the bed and he can't snuggle!
ReplyDeleteI am going to keep this post cause we are in DESPERATE need of a new bed: ours is over 20 years old!!!!!!!!!!!! UGH! I also would like a King size, still have a queen. MY hubby keeps saying "the only way we are leaving this house is in a box"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I yi yi!!! So, I guess men keep thinking about how long things will last. Thanks for all the info and also from the comments. I am LOVING the pillows on your bed, can't wait to see the full reveal.
ReplyDeleteBeds sometimes take a little while to adjust to...at least for this older gal! Gotta get the back used to the new firmness. We have a king size foam mattress, and it works for us.
ReplyDeleteKim, I love your pillows in the first pic! Can you tell me your wall paint color...as I really like that too.
Thanks for the weekly link parties too, as I usually drop by.
Sheila@mykentuckyliving
Walls are Alexandria Beige by Benjamin Moore.
DeleteYes, I think I will get used to this mattress and I believe I need a new pillow so now investigating those.
Your master bedroom looks divine Kim, even the preview. I have just linked up my master bedroom mood board and ideas. I am going for a completely different look than I had before. I am just waiting for my shutters to be installed, they are the same as yours, I am so excited as the peek at yours looks great. I am moving my bed in front of the shutters to create a better layout in my room as it is only small and I want a corner for a chair as you have.
ReplyDeleteI love the combination of patterns and tones in the pillows, you have an eye for detail. My pillows are causing me grief at the moment, I have bought the fabrics but not sure I have made the right decision.
If you get time, hop over to the post and have a look. I bought the duvet cover in the weekend and went for the Cabbage rose in blue, not the check linen. I will be doing another sneak look at my room maybe next week as I now have my headboard, duvet and pillow fabrics. Can't wait to see your room finished.
Lee
PS...We have a sealy bed and it is great.
ReplyDeleteLee
We bought a mattress about 2 years ago after laying on so many and researching, etc...I simply do not sleep well on it! That's the bottom line. But it's too late to return it. I wish we had done the Sleep Number! I hope you find just what you love.
ReplyDeleteI love that monogrammed pillow. I don't think I saw where you purchased that. Do you mind sharing?
Kathy, those were just peeks before the reveal so I didn't mention sources. The monogrammed pillow is from Ballards.
DeleteWe have a queen memory foam/inner spring combo and like it very much. One thing I don't like is the way the fitted sheet fits. The memory foam isn't as thick as the other new mattresses and the fitted sheet gets all wrinkled. I hate sleeping on all those wrinkles. All the sheets in the stores say they are for deeper mattresses now. Anyone have a solution? Are you having that problem Kim?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is like test driving a car for me but more awkward. I hate the feeling of laying on the mattresses in the store. We finally settled on a queen memory foam mattresses for our little lake house.
