It still holds dried hydrangeas like it did in the fireplace, but it has such presence on the dining room table.
The pedestal under it was begging to be painted so out came two paints and some waxes.
It turned out just as I wanted it to. All old, worn and crusty.
The hydrangeas are two years old and are so delicate. The petals fall off if I touch the flowers.
That's one paint project down and several to go. I started painting something else yesterday that I shared on instagram. I am having to paint in the garage and it is supposed to get really cold this week so this project may take longer than I like.
Have y'all started any projects yet in this new year?
Wow, that is beautiful. It looks like stone ~
ReplyDeleteLooks so much like the urn ~~ beautiful job ~
Have a wonderful day

I'm impressed that you're already jumping into projects - I'm getting a slower start! Love the new finish on the urn pedestal - you are such a talented painter!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty Kim! I worked on my first paint project for the year too...and I already found two more pieces that I want to do ;-)
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of Amy Howard one step paint, where do you get it? I have some big furniture projects lined up, would you use it directly on finished furn as a basecoat for ASCP? Thanks
ReplyDeleteJenna
Jenna, I get mine at a local antique mall. I 'm sure you can google it and find it somewhere. Amy Howard also has a blog.
DeleteI stock Amy Howard's One Step and I'm sure you can find a retailer near you...or order it to be shipped. Both Amy Howard and ASCP also make a great foundation for Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint! Great work, Kim!
DeleteGorgeous, Kim! And thank you for the inspiration. I was just going to purchase a new plant for my dining room table, but I think I'll go with dried hydrangeas instead! :)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I love the paint technique. What a great centerpiece! I have noticed antlers popping up everywhere in décor right now. I guess they are becoming a hot item. :)
ReplyDeleteI sprayed my hydrangea with hair spray and they stopped breaking.
ReplyDeleteLove the urn and the pedestal...and the dried hydrangeas...and the antlers too! :)
ReplyDeleteI get the same feeling when putting away my Christmas decorations. It's like an empty canvas and I see my home in a different way. A great time to change things up. I love how the urn turned out. Just read the comment above about spraying dried hydrangeas with hair spray to keep them from breaking. Great tip.

Very pretty, Kim! I love the pedestal. The paint you chose was perfect! It looks wonderful on your dining room table!
ReplyDeleteIs your planter/urn concrete? I have two similar - very old, that were my mom's. Have them on either side of our arbor in the back yard. What is your capital made of? I saw several at the salvage place the other day but all were concrete. Would like to find an old wood one.
ReplyDeleteNo projects started here yet. We've just been enjoying the holidays and family and friends the last few weeks. Getting back in the swing of things this week.
tina, mine is that lightweight stuff not concrete. The capital is wood.
Deletethanks
You need to give lessons! Beautiful, Kim!
ReplyDeleteLike minds. :-) I have been redoing tabletops also! Your urn is lovely.

It looks great on your table...love the color!
ReplyDeleteYour gorgeous vignette makes me want to dress up my own dining room table. You really have the crusty paint technique down; your pedestal looks ancient!
ReplyDeletethe paint color looks great on your piece and it looks perfect in your dinning room!
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me to paint mine too as I really like the new look so much better....the urn on the pedestal makes such a beautiful centerpiece!!...
ReplyDeleteThat looks wonderful. You are so talented with your painting techniques. The arranement looks perfect on your dining table.
ReplyDeleteLoving the urn on your dining room table!

I've always loved that wooden pedestal. I like it painted, but I must say I really liked it in it's natural state too. I'd like to find one that is wooden some day. It looks good being used in your dining room.
ReplyDeleteLove old hydrangeas: their colours are amazing and looks perfect with the faded colours of the urn.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that capitol! Wish I could find one. The urn and hydrangeas look beautiful on the table!
ReplyDeleteKim, your new vignette looks fresh and pretty. Just perfect for the dining room table.
ReplyDeleteLove the shape of the urn and the detail on the pedestal.
It's beautiful. I love the antlers with the hydrangeas!
ReplyDeleteLove the urn! I think most of us welcome a change in our homes after all the Christmas Fru Fru
ReplyDeleteI love the way the pedestal turned out Kim. Of course everything is always changing in my house too! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Kim! I'm always in awe that you can visualize something, paint it, and it comes out just as you hoped! I just didn't get that gene :)

ReplyDeleteLove it Kim! So beautiful on your table! Yes I get those petals too,but I have to keep them cleaned up.My cat likes eating them, and then it makes her sick.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, it looks so good! I have the same one but I've been nervous to paint it for some reason ;)
ReplyDeleteI love it. I've wanted a pedestal like that for a while. Yours is too pretty.
ReplyDeletekim, i just love that base. where did you get that?
ReplyDeleteWhat color of paints did you use. Was it Amy Howard one step paint?
ReplyDeleteI really can't remember, but I'm sure it's whatever I had on hand and it may have been Annie Sloan chalk paint or another brand.
