After the Christmas vignette was put away I was trying to figure out how I wanted to style the top of the French chest in the foyer. I was having trouble remembering what I had here before and was going to refresh my memory by looking at my blog. Then I decided to just come up with something new. There's just something about a fresh start for the new year.
I looked around my house and even looked inside this chest for things to use. I bought several house plants to place throughout the house to add some life while everything is cold and gray outside. I thought the ivy would look nice in this rare ironstone punch bowl.
To add some visual interest on this large chest I placed some old books and a pair of old glasses.
My large wicker demijohn sits on the other side for the height and texture.
A vintage pair of scissors are just for fun or to snip extra long ivy runners.
The ivy softens the hardscape and it should do well in this bright space.

I've used many textures together in this vignette....wicker, glass, leather, metal, stone and natural elements.
I switched out the lamp again. Lamps seem to move around in my house for a fresh new look.
I hope this has inspired you to grab some things from around your house, throw in a new plant and create a new vignette.
Your vignette looks beautiful. I am in love with your ironstone bowl.

That looks good, Kim. You can use the scissors to trim the ivy! I have always loved that lamp - a real classic.
ReplyDeletehow fun are those old scissors!!
ReplyDeleteLooks great...love plants in my vignettes...you certainly included so many beautiful textures in your newly created vignette. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteWonderful vignette! That is exactly the kind of thing I'm doing in my home now. The ivy looks great- adding some green during this dull time of year is a great idea. Love the old spectacles!
ReplyDeleteI would add some spanish moss around the ivy to hide the pot.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have thought about that and have not been to the store yet to get some.
DeleteKim,
DeleteMy sister, the florist, recommends NOT using spanish moss in an ivy pot because it fosters spider mites. Instead, she recommends sheet green moss.

Thanks, Judith.
DeleteLooking good Kim-Love plants in ironstone!
ReplyDeleteLove this look...the old spectacles in their case is fabulous!

This has inspired me! I have a similar table in my front entry and now I am going to do a "house wander" to find things to display. Your process is very helpful....thanks!

Lovely vignette. I think everyone are making small changes in their home. I think January and February there is a need for freshness in our homes.
ReplyDeleteCreating vignettes are so much fun. Love it when you stand back and it's just perfect. I love everything about your new display. I'm admiring your mirror. Is it another vintage find?
ReplyDeleteJoanne, I have had the mirror. I found it in late 2012 at Scott's Antique Market in Atlanta.
DeleteI love the vignette. Very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThe lovely white ironstone bowl really gives it a fresh and crisp look. Very pretty Kim!
ReplyDeleteAlways after Christmas, white china, polished silver and fresh greenry seems to satisfy me somehow. Love what you've done.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful spot in your home, and I love how the ivy keeps the look so fresh. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteciao!
That's a great looking vignette! I love the little eye glasses in the case added too. I've heard that live plants help clean the air so now that you've gotten some live ones, I bet your house is healthier.
ReplyDeleteI'm craving some green right now, but my ivy plants look a little sickly. I've always put Spanish moss around them but may try the sheet moss as someone suggested. Love your new vignette! Now if I can just find my grandmother's pair of glasses, I'll put them on display, too!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty Kim, I love the old glasses they just seem to add a historical touch to the vignette. I love placing live plants in every room, it makes me feel like i can breathe easier heh heh. I love the demi john no matter where you put it.
ReplyDeleteI love this vignette and I also was loking at the grocery for some cyclamens to add around the house. I also just remembered that I have some things that were my Grandfathers that I could use in a vignette. Thanks for the idea!!! I love all the textures you used here. That lamp has always been a fave of mine.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Kim - you have such fun pieces - love those old glasses and the scissors - perfect pieces for your vignette !
