I shared some ideas about decorating with red in my last post and told y'all I had added it to a different room in my home. When I decorated the Master recently, after getting the new king size bed, I added very neutral bedding. It was pretty and it worked, but the shams were a bit modern for me and the room really didn't flow with the rest of the house or the master bathroom. The flow just kind of stopped. I could not figure out why I was not in love with my new bed and then it hit me. I NEEDED to add color. Specifically RED.......
Because the pink tulips go well with the new bedding.
The only thing I changed was the duvet and I added two king shams. Both were on sale at Pottery Barn before Christmas. Yes, I made this change before Christmas.
Now when I walk in the room it feels like me and it makes me happy.
This new duvet flows with the green in the master bathroom even though that hutch may be lightened up a bit soon.
A red checked pillow was added on this side of the room.
A red grain sack pillow sits on the bench and adds the French Country style I love.
Even my Chucks match the room.
Even though I love to look at rooms done in neutrals I have to have color around me.
My advice is to decorate your home with what makes you feel good. After all it is your home and your haven.
Of course, I'm sure the bedding will change again now and then since I have a thing for bedding and I like to lighten things up in the warmer seasons.
All bedding is Pottery Barn except the quilt is from Restoration Hardware outlet and was deeply discounted.
Have an awesome week!

I love your room and the happiness is evident there. Red is such a happy accent color especially paired with turquoise. I love the color with the neutral patinas, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Gigi!
DeleteLOVE, love, love the duvet Kim! I'm with you in loving color against neutrals...especially pink, red and aqua.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anita. I love this duvet, too and all the colors.
DeleteThat duvet is gorgeous! Love the new look in there - it really is cheerful! And those shoes are the perfect accent!
ReplyDeleteShelley
Thanks so much, Shelley!
DeleteAlthough I am not a red person, that is a beautiful duvet. I think you need a different pillow in the chair though. There is just something off to me (and that's just my opinon), but I think it may be that pillow looks more country while the bedding doesn't. I agree with using what makes you feel good. For a long time I used deeper colors (including red!) and it just wasn't me. I love shades of aqua and turquoise, robins egg blue. Our house is neutral in the main pieces (sofa, chairs, etc.) in the main living spaces and bedrooms and bedding. Cream slips in the sunroom even. But now we have accents of the aquas, etc. and love it! You want your home to feel like you. (Although I am not a red person, I do have a few touches in our kitchen and in our home office, which is a bit more masculine than the other rooms.)
ReplyDeletetina, it's all French country and that checked pillow is very French country. Thanks for your input.
DeleteThe pattern on that duvet is GORGEOUS!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katie!
DeleteI LOVE that duvet. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janette! I was thrilled to find it.
DeleteIt's all beautiful ! You are a fabulous decorator !
ReplyDeleteHow sweet of you, Priscilla!
DeleteKim I love the new bedding and tulips are of course my favorite.
ReplyDeleteThey are my favorite, too. I just wished they lasted longer. Thanks!
DeleteOh Kim, I love it! And I SO agree with decorating with what makes YOU happy! Love the reds (and the touch of pink of course:). Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYes, Pinky we should always decorate with what we love and makes us happy. Thanks!
DeleteLove the added color.....no longer blah.........
ReplyDeleteYou took the words right out of my mouth. :)
DeleteGorgeous! I love all of the red touches you added to the room including the chucks!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Penny. I know you and I both love red.
DeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI use a lot of neutrals as well and I love to bring in a little color through pillows, décor, etc. The red duvet and shams look beautiful in your bedroom but I especially love the red grain sack pillow you have sitting on your bench. Can you tell me where you got it?
Teresa, I bought the grain sack in France, but you can certainly find them here or on ebay and I just put two standard pillow forms inside it. Thanks
DeleteI agree with you Kim!!!! The pops of red you added truly made the room come alive!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Vel!
DeleteKim i love all the red touches. The duvet is gorgeous. I love your chucks too!
ReplyDeleteKathy
Thanks, Kathy!
DeleteLove the new bedding and the room looks so vibrant!...and Chuck agrees too!....
ReplyDeleteThank you, my buddy!
DeleteYes, adding the red accents were just what your bedroom needed. LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Very pretty and I was going to ask how you stuffed your grainsack, as I have had challenges getting them made for the large lumbar pillows. You said you used two "standard" pillow forms - can you be more specific like what size they are. Thanks, Kim!
ReplyDeleteTwo standard pillows you sleep on. Not all grain sacks are large enough though. I have some that two pillows would stick out, but this grain sack is large.
DeleteWow - that duvet is gorgeous!!! Of course, I love the red and those Chucks are awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Doreen!
DeleteI love the red that you brought into the room. I love red also. Great choice on the duvet.
ReplyDeleteMary
Thanks, Mary. That duvet has great colors.
DeleteYour style is always so beautiful and peaceful. I love following what you do next. Can I move in? :)
ReplyDeleteWell you know I am all about pink ;-) .Your duvet is gorgeous and adds just the right touches of color.Absolutely gorgeous Kim! Your photos look like they were taken right out of a gorgeous decorating book!

I think you said something nice. :) thanks
DeleteIt's beautiful! The duvet & coverlet are so nice together. Is the coverlet white or an ivory? It's hard to tell on my computer. I love your home & enjoy your blog very much! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThe color of the shams by PB is Flax and the RH quilt is very close to the same color. They are grayer than ivory. Thanks
DeleteI love that new bedding! the red really pops off the cream and works so well to make the room look cozy and soft.
ReplyDeleteThanks, sis!
DeleteVery pretty Kim. I love the red you are adding around the house. That duvet is gorgeous. The room is very cheerful and pretty.

Thanks, Kris!
DeleteLOVE!! I think it is getting better and better with each new change.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathysue!
DeleteYour room of neutrals feel calming even with your different patterns of red. It's elegantly red, and invites beautiful inspirational designs around it.
ReplyDeleteLovely additions to your master room
Xx
Dore
Awe, thanks, Dore!
DeleteKim, what cheer the color brings to your bedroom! That is what is so fun about a neutral background I think, that ability to change up the feel of a space easily with different colors. The red is so cheery and warm!
ReplyDeleteSo true, Lisa that a neutral background works best.
DeleteKim, that duvet is gorgeous and bringing in more color into your bedroom was just the perfect touch. With those red shoes, you'll be tip toeing through the tulips!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jane. You are so funny!
DeleteI just love that room with the gorgeous red, colorful duvet and the shoes too!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!

DeleteLoving it all Kim. I don't know why I never noticed your wonderful ceiling before, have you shown that shot of it in the past? I love it! Cute shoes!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a great bedroom. Love ceiling and always enjoy seeing my favorite bench.
ReplyDeleteCindy
Thanks, Cindy. I actually would like to paint the ceiling if I could reach it.
DeleteThanks, Cindy. I actually would like to paint the ceiling if I could reach it.
DeleteI love the red you added in your bedroom. Suddenly it looks a lot more personal and you're right, it flows so well with the next room. By the way, I had no ad, so either you fixed it successfully or Adblock did a good job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Magali.
DeleteI also love red and have lots of color everywhere. I love the bench at the end of the bed and everything in the room :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda. So many people don't like red much for decorating, but a few of us do.
DeleteI agree with you! Bringing some "seasonal color" into the room warms it up and makes it "smile!" I love the touches of red...and your chucks!
ReplyDeleteThanks, my friend!
DeleteLOVE, love, LOVE the reds and pink hues in your room!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
Thanks so much for sharing with us Kim.
Have a great week,
Suzanne
Thanks so much, Suzanne!
DeleteWow this is a gorgeous room! Its inviting and I think you are right, the duvet makes it warmer as do the little touches of red. You are so talented at decorating. I love the settee at the foot of the bed too. I am working on my bedroom now. Shopping for a duvet....just haven't seen one that is perfect for me yet.
ReplyDeleteAmy, thanks so much. That is such a compliment coming from you.
DeleteYour room is beautiful! I love that it is a reflection of you - your personality comes through! Great job. :) ~julie
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julie!
DeleteYour room is so beautiful and a real inspiration! I love the neutral colors you have used ... and the great thing .... you can accent with any color! You have inspired me to get started on my own place!
ReplyDelete~ Debi
Thanks, Debi!
DeleteGorgeous! Red is one of my favorite colors to add for a pop and I really love how well it works in your room!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan!
DeleteThank you, Susan!
DeleteVery pretty. I love the current color of the hutch in your bathroom, but I'm sure no matter what you do to it, it will look great.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!!!!
ReplyDeleteI had a decorator friend (who has sadly passed away) who always advised clients to have some red in room. I remember a saying that she had "The life is in the blood"...a reference based in Christianity but also that she thought red gave "life" to a room. My favorite touch of red in your room is that fabulous grain sack pillow with red initials. Just a gorgeous room, Kim!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous duvet. I'm currently introducing more red into my decor. It's such a happy colour!
ReplyDeleteI just bought the diamond linen quilt in white from PB for my bed. I am trying to decide if I should get the euro shams or king shams. Great minds!! It's the nicest quilt, so soft to the touch and wonderful to sleep with. A real winner!!
ReplyDeleteYour room is beautiful, Kim. That is one of the beauties of that neutral background, you can always add colour for a different look.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! Love your style. Lovely bedroom. Paint color reminds me a bit of my color. Love the bedding and the bed. Do yu have details of bed? King Size? I wish I could find comforters to cover my king mattress! This one is lovely! I currently have IKEA duvet in that neutral color but it just doesn't cover my king plush mattress. I'm on the hunt since I want to summarizes my look. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteKary, yes it is a king size and my duvet is from Pottery Barn. Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware are plenty wide for a plush mattress. My current mattress is not plush.
DeleteThanks
Just found your blog today and I'm in love! I have pops of red all over my house with a farmhouse look as well. I love how you use the different neutrals together. Are those white curtains? And then you have flax, ivory, tans, etc. as well? I want to add white curtains but I have lots of ivory. My walls are revere pewter. Trim is a bright white. Looks like you have mixed all the different neutrals, and they look great. Or is it just the photo not showing the true colors? In any case, love every room in your house!
ReplyDeleteThe curtains are more of an off white. They are from Ikea and very cheap. I have revere pewter walls in the master bath, one of the guest baths and the powder room. I love that color. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteSorry to bug you again, but do you remember which IKEA curtains they are? We live 3 hours from the closest Ikea so I may order online. Thanks!
DeleteRitva
DeleteI absolutely LOVE the red duvet on your bed! This is exactly what I've had pictured in my mind but could never find. Would you mind giving me the name of it? I've looked on the pottery barn website but I can't seem to find it.
ReplyDeleteFaith, I don't remember the name of it. I don't think they carry this one anymore. Thanks
DeleteI am in love with your room color but can't find anything close to it. Do you remember possibly what the name is or where you got it from?
ReplyDeleteThe walls are Alexandria Beige by Benjamin Moore. I have a widget on my sidebar that goes to a post listing all my paint colors. Thanks
DeleteHey Kim,
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me the brand of your chandelier?
Torrie, it is by Minka Lavery, but discontinued.
Deletewall/ceiling paint colors please ?
ReplyDeleteWalls are Alexandria Beige by Benjamin Moore. Ceiling is custom.
