When we built our house, almost twenty years ago, we were on a very tight budget. When choosing the tubs and toilets the place we shopped was cleaning out the showroom floor for the new models to come in and we chose to get this brown tub and the matching brown toilet because they were practically free.
I put these in my son's room figuring brown is good for a boy. Right? Well they were fine while he was living here, but I wasn't thinking very far into the future and how much I would loathe the brown.
So two young men arrived and I showed them what they were to work on. Guess what? They have never seen a brown tub before. I told them well, you have now!
They taped all our beautiful work off so none of the overspray would ruin any of it.
Of course the new tiled floor got covered as well. They loved the floor.
After four hours of prepping, sanding, etching and reglazing, the tub was pretty and white. I was so thrilled to see it white that I didn't notice what got missed. Mr. Savvy came home and went to look at it and he yells to me to come up stairs. He showed me what got missed. Do you see what it is?
All the holes (there are several) where the shower doors were didn't get patched and painted, as I was told they would when I set this up, So I called them and they will be back on Monday to take care of it.
So another glitch in the bath project saga. No work for us on the bathroom this weekend since we are leaving it all covered up until they return.
After they come back and it dries for twenty four hours all we have left to do is add the bath faucet and shower head and handle, which was special ordered to fit our existing plumbing, add the trim, do some touch up paint and then add the pretties.
At least I hope it goes like that.

At least I hope it goes like that.

Happy weekend!
I think if things went perfectly it would certainly be not the norm!!.....From the peek into the bathroom, I can see that it is looking great!...Have a great day!....Raining here!
ReplyDeleteRained all day yesterday here. I had to send it your way.
DeleteThat looks great! Is it very expensive to have the tub refinished like that?
ReplyDeletePam, I used a local company that has been in the business for many years and for a 5 foot tub like this one it was $595, but had to be done.
DeleteI'm surprised that professional refinishers had never seen a brown tub before. Good to hear that they are standing behind their work and coming to fix the holes. This looks a whole lot better now!
ReplyDeleteThey were young so I guess they have never seen the brown before.
DeleteSometyimes things just can't seem to go smoothly! But it will all be beautiful soon!!! Have a great weekend, it is pouring rain here so indoor projects here today.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pinky. Cloudy here after raining all day yesterday
DeleteWe built our house about the same time! Luckily, all our fixtures are very neutral. The white tub looks nice. Everything will be fixed and all done Monday. Do something fun this weekend! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteNot sure about doing something fun, tina. I'm purging stuff again but it feels good to get that done.
DeleteUggghhhh! I hate it when things like that happen. You get so excited to see the change you miss the details... until the folks are gone. The good news is that they will be back to take care of it. It is going to look SOOOO good with that tile. =) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteYes, they will make it look wonderful I'm sure.
DeleteWhat a difference just the white makes...so clean and fresh. Enjoy the weekend off!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThe white looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marty.
DeleteLove the white looks great
ReplyDeleteThanks, I love it, too. Really brightened up the space.
DeleteSo clean and fresh!!! The reveal will be amazing , I just know it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gee!
DeleteKnow you are going to enjoy the "new" bath. The sparkling white looks great!
ReplyDeleteSarah, I think I am going to like this one more than the master.
DeleteOne word...fresh! Looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWarm hug,
Titti
Thanks, Titti!
DeleteI love white and glossy---so clean and fresh. I had my yellow tub sprayed white several years ago. Be careful that you never allow anyone to use anything but a spray cleaner never anything abrasive.
ReplyDeleteConnie, they gave me a bottle of their own liquid cleaner to mix with water and told me no abrasive anything. Thanks
DeleteI think white is always more versatile. I'm so glad they are coming to fix the problems, sometimes it's difficult to get that from workers.
ReplyDeleteYes, white is always better. I'm glad they are coming Monday even though I would have preferred yesterday.
DeleteLooks awesome Kim! Nice shiny white! I had a bath tub reglaze in my previous home. It worked really well!
ReplyDeleteYou are almost there!!
Thanks, Cristina!
DeleteWow, amazing the change it makes...we had a dark brown tubs once, long long ago, and we loved it, thought it was so chic! I shudder when I think of some of my early decorating phases!
ReplyDeleteJenna
Brown bathroom fixtures totally makes sense for a boy...you probably didn't have to clean it out every day at least! We have a dumpster in our driveway this week, cause we're having our deck rebuilt. one of the guys helping is a plumber also. He conveniently stashed someone else's pink toilet in the dumpster, luckily the whole subdivision can see it protruding out of the top in plain sight. yay. love the new look you have, so clean and fresh!
ReplyDeleteThe white looks great Kim. Looking forward to seeing it 'unwrapped'.
ReplyDeleteJust a tiny glitch. I can see a major improvement!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great change! Amazing what can be done...and this keeps an outdated color out of a landfill! Good luck on Monday!
ReplyDeleteI'm probably going to be the only one who questions whether this time-warp bath was worth salvaging? $595 seems like a hefty sum to be spending on a paint upgrade, so wouldn't a free-standing shower have been a better, more cost-effective choice in the long run? When I do any upgrades, I'm always looking at it from the viewpoint of a prospective buyer. Does it suit our needs? Will it suit theirs? Is it a good fit with the rest of the room? How will the upgrade affect a sale down the line, if need be? Bathrooms and kitchens are the two biggest buying draw cards in a house. It seems such a pity, especially after you've made so many new improvements to this bathroom, that you're not going to overhaul it with a lovely, new and improved walk-in shower. Whatever the reason, I think white was a great choice for the upgrade! Can't wait for the reveal! :D heather x
ReplyDeleteHeather, this bath was in perfect condition except for the color. Why would be go through much more money to rip it out? This was not a total gut reno. It was a bath refresh. We would have had to cut the tub out and take down a wall to get it out. This was the more economical way to bring the bath into the present. This is a bath ensuite to a bedroom and if this house ever sells in the distant future this will probably be a child's room and I think a bath would be needed. The other bedroom also has a tub with shower. I know all about upgrades for a prospective buyer since my mom was in real estate for years. We are empty nesters and are not going anywhere any time soon and I'm sure if this house goes to another family they will make the needed changes they see fit. thanks
DeleteHi Kim. You're right! It all makes much better sense as I can see where you are headed with this project. It was a good idea to refresh instead of re-gut, and I'm excited to see how it all turns out. Please forgive my 'lack of tact'. Sometimes I get carried away in the visualization and forget the bigger picture. Bad habit!! ;-) Hx
DeleteLooks great Kim. Glad they agreed to come back and fix the holes for you. I cannot wait to see the bathroom reveal.
ReplyDeleteKris
WOW looks like a brand new tub! It's looking so beautiful already! I cannot wait to see it done...and I bet you feel the same way ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt really looks great! Such a difference too!
ReplyDeleteHaving not been a subscriber to your blog until recently, Kim, I am just now catching up with some of your projects. The new bathroom is lovely, but I was wondering if what you had done to your tub and surround is the same as what's called re-surfacing. I know that that procedure creates very toxic fumes in the house which I would want avoid. Was that the case with your tub refinish? I've put off having my very worn and chipped tub re-surfaced just because of the toxicity.
ReplyDeleteNaomi, I was worried that the smell would be awful and fill the house, but it just smelled like strong paint and not that bad. They worked with the windows open and they use a vacuum system thing that hangs out the window carrying the overspray outside.
