I hope y'all had a good weekend. If you read my blog over the weekend then you know we worked all weekend. I will tell you the armoire is finished, but I'm waiting on the knobs to come in. I also finished another project that I started on Saturday afternoon, The chair is sanded and waiting its turn to be finished.
Today I am sharing my cabinet of ironstone in the kitchen.I love the look of open shelving in kitchens. My other half is not too keen about it. I would love to take this one cabinet down and replace it with shelves, but he is not on board with that so just removing the doors is the next best thing. I have had these shelves arranged many different ways, but now they are filled with more of my growing ironstone collection.

I know many don't care for open shelving because the things on the shelves can get dusty and dirty, but this small area is easy to keep clean and I actually use some of these things. They aren't just for looks.
Do you like open shelving?
I leave you with a peek at one of the projects I worked on.
Have an awesome week!

Morning, Kimmie! Yay! I can comment on your post! I love your shelf! I do like open shelving but don't think I would want one. I'd probably be so messy with them. I see you're still painting! You crack me up with your paint brushes. Hope you're getting a wee bit of rest this week.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Love all your ironstone!!!! I wanted open shelving when we renovated our kitchen but like yours my hubby was not keen on the idea either so I settled for glass front cabinets. Maybe some day I'll get my shelves and marble counters?!?!?!

Girl, you need to have some fun on your weekends! Mr. Saavy is a good man to work all week and then work the weekends too.
ReplyDeleteI think open shelving looks great in alot of kitchens. However, I don't really visualize it in our kitchen. I do like glass front cabinets. I would think yours wouldn't get too dusty since you really have an open cabinet vs. open shelving. I'll tell you what I would really like - having just seen the dish pantry that Heather Bullard has - I love it! Don't think I'm willing to give up my regular pantry for a dish pantry though.
tina, we had fun on Friday and then got to work on Saturday. If he hadn't worked on this he would have been working on the deck or on his car. We love DIYing. Keeps us young.
DeleteI love the look but chose glasss front cabinets when remodeling our kitchen to keep everything clean and easy to use, but still able to display in them. I have cupboards though and though they get dusty I do love the open shelves.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cinsy
Loving your cabinet! I like the look of open cabinets in kitchen most of the time, but not for me and my house at this point. I do enjoy seeing it in other peoples homes and appreciate the look.
ReplyDeleteLove the open shelving and the beautiful ironstone...I am sure you are anxious to finish rejuvenating the armoire!
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm a big fan of open shelving. I love your shelves and you always have them styled beautifully! Love the sneak peek, too!
ReplyDeleteLove your open cabinet and the ironstone looks great in there....wouldn't work in my kitchen...I'm too messy...shove it in and close the door!!!!
ReplyDeleteI do like open shelving, but shy away for the dust factor. Yours looks great Kim.
ReplyDeleteYour ironstone looks beautiful in you open cupboard. I like keeping it handy to use too.

I love the look of open shelving and the pretty way you have everything displayed!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteOpen shelving is really starting to grow on me. The more I see it, the more I am becoming a fan. I love how you have your ironstone displayed....you have some beautiful pieces!
I did go to Lucketts on early Saturday am and bought a beautiful ironstone sugar bowl and small ironstone pitcher from MMS's booth. Marian had a huge amount of ironstone this year and I noticed many other vendors did as well. I must say that this year's event was a much more pleasant shopping experience than previous years. I credit that to the new format of having a special early buyers day on Friday and opening two hours earlier on Saturday. It eliminated the frenzy of past Lucketts spring markets.
I am a fan of open shelving (and I'm a die-hard Ironstone addict), and yours couldn't be more perfect. Just gorgeous! I love the piece you bought at Miss Mustard Seed's booth--and I have a twin to your cow pitcher. Your hardware is beautiful--and a great cliffhanger. Can't wait to see the project.
ReplyDeleteI do!!!! Years ago, we took the doors off a couple of cabinets. The one that houses my everyday plates, and the one above the micro that houses my pitchers. I use these daily and I get no dust :)
ReplyDeleteI have 3 of the little cow creamers. Aren't they just adorable. :) LUV your Ironstone collection. Mine is growing as well.
I love the way you arranged the ironstone in the cabinet! Yes, I love open shelving as well, but I couldn't load it up just because of the cleaning. But I do think it's beautiful:D
ReplyDeleteThis looks great and you have a great collection. I can't wait to see the armoire
ReplyDeleteCindy
Not a fan in my kitchen but like you I have a small one in my coffee station area. Love yours though, and glad that yours is not just for display only!
ReplyDeleteIronstone + open shelving = perfection! Looks great Kim. Jane
ReplyDeleteI love the look of open shelving. I know it isn't for everyone, but I think it makes a space look more open and allows one to display more personal or treasured items. Your collection is beautiful and is beautifully displayed!
ReplyDeleteYou have a great collection of ironstone. I like glass cabinet doors, so I can see the items on the shelves, but they say cleaner...
ReplyDeleteI love ironstone and displaying them on your shelves looks great!
ReplyDeleteI like open shelving for some things, but you do have to stay on top of the dusting. We will move to a town house this summer, and the kitchen has lots of open shelving. I've been mentally filling the shelves. '-)
ReplyDeleteI like the way you've grouped your white ironstone, and I will probably do the same in some of the shelves, but I've lots of collections from which to choose.
Can't wait to see the completed new project. You are always busy redoing something!
Yes, I love open shelvings and cannot wait to have some in my kitchen someday. Yours looks really pretty. Your ironstone collection is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOoohhh that project is going to be fabou!!! Cannot wait to see more!! :)
This looks great, Kim! I love a mix of open and covered shelves. Open is so charming and when you use the things you display, it's so efficient and easy!
ReplyDeleteI have ALWAYS loved open shelving--but hubby doesn't care for it here either. I blame it on his mother for potty training him too early. lol Anyway, he does like glass front-so I did some of those and I have removed doors in other homes so that I get that "open shelf feeling". Love all your ironstone. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteLove the open shelves and all your great ironstone. I have open shelving and love it. Have a great week Kim
ReplyDeleteKris
It looks great Kim. I'm going to have a few shelves in our "new" kitchen and I'm not sure how I'll like it. It will be filled with everyday dishes so it should be ok. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteI think your open shelves look great, Kim! My hubby doesn't like them either though. Every time we see any on a tv show, the first words out of his mouth are, "I hate open shelves." Oh well...guess there could be worse things. lol
ReplyDeleteI love open shelving, especially for the items you use often! I have zero open shelving in my kitchen, I do have an open pot rack though. lol I love all of your ironstone grouped together in the kitchen and your beautiful styling!
ReplyDeleteSally
I love your display on your shelves. I wouldn't go all open shelving, but a minimum is absolutely necessary or what would be the point in collecting dishes???
ReplyDeleteOh, I love how charming open shelves look! I'm sitting here looking at your collection, it's wonderful! Love the display and I think I'm going to need some open shelving now!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Nancy
I think it looks beautiful Kim - I have plate racks which are open - but I use them daily so it's ok - and I really do like the idea of open shelving - especially for nice pieces - they's shouldn't be hidden behind closed doors !
ReplyDeleteI do love open shelving, in fact I just took the door off another cabinet in my kitchen. A bit jealous of all your ironstone items, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove open shelves....and ironstone......and those English pots!

Charming ironstone vignette. What a pop of red with those straws! Your eye goes right to them.
ReplyDeleteI like your display of ironstone in the kitchen! I love open shelving too, but Jimmy isn't a fan either. Looking forward to seeing your armoire when it's done.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great, Kim! I am a fan of open shelves. It's casual and inviting. Love the banded ironstone pitcher - I have some of those. Many were used in schoolhouses and country homes all over England.
ReplyDeleteYou open shelves look great! I took the doors off one of my cabinets a year ago and wasn't sure if I would find it a pain to look after, but it hasn't been any problem. I use the items regularly so dust isn't an issue. If anything it makes me just put things back in the right place so it doesn't get jumbled and that's a good thing for me.
