You know what? I have never shopped from craigslist before. Nope, nada, never. For some reason on Mother's Day, between loads of laundry and cleaning the house after my son and family left, I looked up armoires on there and found one in particular that was just the style I was looking for and definitely the right price. It was located an hour from us in a warehouse that sells estate sale finds. Finally on Thursday, with a borrowed truck, Mr. Savvy and I went to check it out. The photos on the listing were horrible so I wasn't really sure what shape it was in. Then I saw it and while trying not to look excited over it I was jumping up and down inside. It is gorgeous on the outside with a few missing parts on the inside and you will have to wait till it is all pretty before you get to see it. Yea, I'm mean like that. While at this place and the sister store down the street I did bring home a few other bargains that I was not expecting to find.
I spied this blue and white jar and it's in mint condition. I have two already. One with a lid and one without.
Now I have two with a lid. Only $12 and it's marked on the bottom. I paid two to three times more for the other two.
While I was waiting for the armoire to be loaded I looked up and saw a lidded basket on a top shelf. I couldn't see the price and asked hubby to look. $18! Sold! Cheapest I have ever paid for one of these.
I love stacking these and they make great storage for my pillow covers addiction and other things.
I replaced the small fishing basket with this basket.
These are in the French style guest room.
I'm so glad I found this place through craigslist.
Mr. Savvy told them when I checked out he was sure I would be back again.
:)
Okay, I changed my mind and decided to be nice. Here is a peek at the armoire.
Now, I'm going to go work on that chair while the mister works on the armoire.
Happy Saturday!

This so looks so similar to the armoire we had. The feet on yours much prettier. Ours was Bassett and purchased as a part of our bedroom suite in 1973. I had great plans to chalk paint it in a gray color but we experienced the Gulf Coast 2014 April flood and had to toss it and the dresser too. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Waiting anxiously.
ReplyDeleteSo were these antique pieces at the place? We have two armoires (antique), but they do not have drawers at the bottom - they are more like a "closet" inside. The smaller one is in our master bedroom and it did have some drawers inside. Hubby refitted the inside (removed the hanging rod and drawers) and fixed it for our tv (flatscreen) to sit. About 2/3s of the area is open below the tv and that is storage for extra pillows, bedding, etc. The one in the great room is large and again he refitted the inside for a piece for TV and accessories (larger tv) and shelves for movies/books/etc, speakers, dvr, etc. Love the storage they provide and mainly love they hide the tv! We don't watch much tv and I like it "hidden" (no black hole LOL).
ReplyDeleteI don't do Craigslist (won't go to people's homes) but I have looked at the ads and some of the local and surrounding areas the antique stores advertise on there, so that is nice. Looks like you got some good finds!
I don't suppose you'd part with the name of the place that you got the armoire, would you Kim?;) Love all the goodies you found, especially the blue jar. I'm a sucker for those!
