After what seems like forever getting the deck renovation finished I can finally say it basically is done. There are still a few things to do like paint the windows and the door, but that will be when it isn't ninety degrees plus out there. Let me say one thing.... without the help from Mr. Savvy this project would not have ever happened. I have one very hard working man who made my vision become real.
To refresh your memory this is a photo of how it looked when we got started in May and found some surprising water damage to the house that had to be repaired first.
I'm so glad I remembered these shutters were stored away. I painted them with two coats of exterior paint and then they were hung.
All we used was a small chain from Home Depot and some eye hooks.
They help add interest and actually help with the sun when it is on that side of the deck, which is most of the afternoon.
I shared peeks of the pillows in a post awhile back. They are all outdoor pillows. The pink ones and the flamingo pillow are from the Pottery Barn outlet and the larger floral paisley ones are from regular Pottery Barn.
I finally found two nice hanging baskets last week.
This time of year the pickings can be low, but at least they were half price and should last till it gets cold.
We spent a good bit on the furniture, but I wanted it to be made well, comfy and last.
I did a lot of shopping around before I made the purchase. This set by Brown Jordan made for the Home Depot was a fair price for nice thick cushions in a Sunbrella fabric. I can use whatever color accessories since the cushions are neutral.
The fun part was shopping for the accessories. The garden stool was found at HomeGoods and was less than forty dollars. I have seen so many for over one hundred. The stool makes a nice place to set a drink. The plant is not normally there. Both of these pillows are also from the Pottery Barn outlet.
The outdoor rug is from overstock.com and the orange and white Greek key outdoor pouff is from Joss & Main and it was purchased with credits that covered most of the price. The pouff can be used as an ottoman to put your feet up on or as an extra seat. The little table was also found at HomeGoods and is the perfect place for my coffee or a drink.
If you follow me on instagram then you saw a photo like this Saturday night. Won't you join me?
The red plastic wine glasses are from Ikea.
At night I light these lanterns and love to watch the light flicker in them when it's dark.
This pot of flowers moved from the front porch to the deck. They love it out here.
Oh, and did you see the string lights?
This is what they look like at night.
And this is the view from the door during the day.
I am looking forward to many nights and mornings sitting out here especially when the temps and humidity cool down a bit.
We worked hard in the yard all weekend and I can't wait to share it.
I hope y'all have a fabulous week!

Such an amazing oasis Kim!!! I love every inch. The shutters are a brilliant idea! I bet you will spend tons of time out in your new outdoor room!
ReplyDeleteI love your new and improved deck!!! Your deck posts inspired me to spruce up our patio a little. I had already bought new pillows and then found two outdoor rugs to use (We have two seating areas and another little spot for just a table and 2 chairs). I have a few little side tables, but I am on the lookout for a white garden stool (would also love an aqua one for inside LOL!!). I never go to Homegoods, but am going to check ours out. I hope you have many enjoyable days/nights on your new area.
ReplyDeleteAfter all your hard work, it is nice to have a respit to relax and enjoy!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks great - very cozy and inviting!!
ReplyDeleteBoy did that turn out nice. I bet you love it, it is like having more square footage. You guys did a great job. thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteSO fabulous Kim! I can only imagine how much use you'll get out of this space and how much fun you'll have styling and changing it up! :)
ReplyDeleteThat turned out so nice! I like the shutters hanging from the back and the hanging baskets are the perfect touch of greenery out there.
ReplyDeleteShutters may be the solution I was looking for to avoid the sun pounding its brilliant light on our deck. I've already pinned your evening shot of your deck to be our inspiration for a pergola addition next spring. As others have commented, the shutters were a brilliant idea. Thank you so very much for your inspiration.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous. Love the shutters and the lights are perfect!
ReplyDeleteIt's just beautiful, Kim! I'm showing my hubs the picture of that pergola right now! I just love the look, and the shutters really make it feel like a room. Enjoy your new space!

You have created an wonderful outdoor space. In our area, you would spend part of every single day out there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty space you have to enjoy now!! I love the pops of pink, of course:-) Love the string lights too--we use ours instead of the porch lighting and the bugs don't seem to gravitate to them as much.
ReplyDeleteI've been so excited to see it! Everything is amazing!!!!!! xo
ReplyDeleteIt really looks great!
ReplyDeleteLove it Kim. The space looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a difference arbor makes and the hanging shutters are brilliant!! Love the pink and green fresh colors! Super spot to recharge!

What fun ... and how inviting and beautiful ... I'd expect nothing less! I love the pieces you chose to showcase your awesome new pergola ... the fabrics ... the florals, and, of course, the lights! I bought some similar at Target and love the ambiance they add at night! I hope you're out there now with a glass of wine, enjoying the view!
ReplyDeleteSo inviting and cozy! The string lights at night are my favorite part of your design. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI am wondering how the shutters would look hung the way they normally would hang. Have you tried a curtain instead of the shutters? Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteI don't want curtains at this time. The shutters were something I had on hand and add interest and texture. They are too tall vertically for the space.
DeleteKim, you and Mr. Savvy did an awesome job! It's a beautiful space. Love the way you hung the shutters for interest and shade. Your porch is very welcoming and colorful. I'm sure you will enjoy many mornings and evenings in this space. I love the string lights and the beautiful glow in the evening.
ReplyDeleteYour seating are is gorgeous (like I knew it would be)! I can't wait to see what you do to it in the fall also. It's like a whole new room to decorate :)

It looks so good and it is really inspiring! I was so surprised to see the pinks & corals - since those don't tend to be your colors (but I don't think everything has to be "matchy-matchy"). You did a great job. Sunbrella fabric is the best - and those cafe lights are perfect!
ReplyDeleteBest,
MIchelle from simplysantabarbara.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteJust saw this on Pinterest. I have a huge opening that neighbors can see to my sitting patio area and i have thrown the idea of rolling shades or an outdoor fabric curtain pulled to the side then i saw your hung shutters never did i think of this wonderful idea. LOVE IT!!! your patio is so beautiful. Now to start looking for shutters and strings of lights.
ReplyDeleteCan you elaborate at all on the construction of the pergola? Yes it looks great, but I would like to know how to build it....especially how you attached it to the railing and the deck floor.
ReplyDeleteThanks
My husband used large screws is all I know. Thanks
