Last weekend I went to another antique market that falls on the weekend after the Scott's antique market. This one is a good bit closer to me and much smaller which means it is so much easier to shop without being overwhelmed.
I have been looking for a pretty footstool for some time now and finally lucked up on a nice one without an outrageous price tag, but it doesn't look like this anymore.
This fabric was pretty and in decent shape, but it doesn't work with my house.
First thing to do is to take the old fabric off and it was attached with a gazillion tacks.
Oh, fun.....not!
After getting all those tacks out I could see that this has been recovered more than once.
The batting was still in great shape so no need to replace it.
I covered it with this grain sack style fabric that I have had for a few years. I'm glad I finally got to use it.
I used my staple gun to attach the fabric and it was very easy to do. It probably took me thirty minutes total to remove the tacks and add the new fabric.
Now it's perfect in the sitting room.
One person on instagram said they were surprised I didn't paint the base.
No, I don't paint everything. This wood is in excellent condition and it's quite heavy, too.
So next time you find something that isn't the right fabric or the right color just remember that with just a bit of effort and time you can transform it to suit your needs.
And here is a peek at my other antique find!
Happy Thursday!

DeleteWhat a great stool! Love the fabric you used and am glad you didn't oaint it. Love the wood!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pinky. Yes not painting this one.
DeleteI love little finds like that! I have been known not to even tackle the tacks but to just go over them....as long as the thickness didn't bother the piece....
ReplyDeleteAnd in my house, I'd probably paint it French Linen...LOL....but that is me....It is a darling piece....

DeleteWhat a cute little stool! I have a stool in my keeping room that has several fabrics layered on top of each other. I couldn't bear to strip it all the way down because, to me, it tells a story (and it is LOADS of work) and who knows, I might like that puke green and orange floral some day. Now, it just has a ruffled slipcover on top. I can't wait to see your new antique!! xox
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily! Yes, it would have been easier to just put this fabric over the other, but all the little raised flowers would have shown through the new fabric.
DeleteLove the new fabric on your find. Also LOVE that afghan!!! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Robyn! That is actually a Pottery Barn thrown turned to the flip side.
DeleteBeautiful stool! And that fabric looks amazing on it...better than what it came with!! My Mother in Law knits us Afghans...yours is beautiful!
