Y'all remember my sideboard that I have shared many times over the last six years? This is one of the first pieces I painted after Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® came to the states. It was painted in Old White first, but I didn't like it so then I painted over it in Chateau Gray with heavy distressing and it has been that way ever since. This is also my very first antique purchase many years ago.
...but oh, yes I did!
My photos make it look much bluer and brighter than it looks in person.
I used some Miss Mustard Seed Milk paint I had on hand and the main color is Bergere.
After two coats of paint I started using hemp oil mixed with dark wax over the blue which was way too light. I took this shot to show how the dark oil really changed it.
I painted over the fabric that I added years ago and then took a lot of it back off so you could barely make out the scene as if it had faded over many years.
Also with some sanding it looked more worn. I also did a wash over the entire sideboard here and there with the color Mora. You can see that on the raised details.
The green color wasn't going to work well with my new plans in this room so blue gray it is.
The rug came in and I love it. I shared a peek of it on instagram.
Still waiting on the accent chair to arrive. Should be any day now.
Have a good one!
Have a good one!
Love the new color. Looking forward to seeing the room all put together.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Penny.
DeleteWhy did I have a sneaky suspicion that you were going to paint that piece blue?!!!...Love the new color and really love that you painted over the fabric...such an old subtle look!...Great job as always!...
ReplyDeleteBecause you have ESP and know me. :)
DeleteIt looks beautiful Kim. I love the way you made the fabric look timeworn and the color is really pretty too. It looks authentically aged.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karen.
DeleteI actually like it better! I am in my blue phase though this spring. Ha! Sheila
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sheila.
DeleteI am heartbroken!! My favorite piece. Huge fan of the green. I'm sure once the room is complete and see it all tied together it will be stunning, as is all the furniture you paint... For now, I'm sad 😩
ReplyDeleteSorry, Stacy. I knew someone would prefer the old look. It was time for a change.
DeleteI love it, Kim!! It's light and happy and like buying a whole new piece... :-) The green was beautiful too, but this is perfect to lighten up for spring. Can't wait to see the rest!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lory.
DeleteSince blue is my all time favorite color for anything I really like it.
ReplyDeleteI have an old piece in my dining room I need to paint over and just need to get to it. thanks for the encouragement
Glad to encourage you!
DeleteYour right...my heart sank! LOL! But, I love it! I still love the old one... but I love this one too;) Doing what you did to the fabric was a pretty darn good idea as well there lil' miss switch-a-roo! I'm really anxious to see this entire room now!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cindy.
DeleteLooks good I like :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dawn.
DeleteBrava!!! I love it and have complete faith that your "plan" is going to look spectacular. Can't wait to see the new post.
ReplyDeleteAwe,thanks, Irishnana!
DeleteBeautiful color! Love your paint technique and the variations in color, too. And, your floors are absolutely gorgeous, Kim!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carolyn.
DeleteOh !!! Looking forward to the new look. We too have some 'new' things planned for this spring. Time to shake things up. Us creative types MUST have change :) Luv the new look on the piece.
ReplyDeleteYes, we creatives must! Thanks, Gee.
DeleteI love everything you do but I have to say I like this new look much better than how it used to look. Can't wait to see your new chair!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Your urn caught my eye. Did you paint that as well? Would love to find one like that.
ReplyDeleteCynthia, it is an old concrete urn and I bought it that way. Thanks
DeleteLove the blue/gray color, and painting over the fabric to make it look aged looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteHave Blessed Day
Thanks, Pamela.
DeleteI like it the way it was before.
ReplyDeleteSorry.
DeleteYou are so talented with things like this. I liked it before but I can understand if the coloring doesn't make you happy then it's time to move on. It really does look like a very old piece- great job!
ReplyDeleteI loved the other look, too, but it wasn't going to work with my changes.
DeleteI think this new transformation is going to look better with what seems to be a more streamlined approach to your decorating! I love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary.
DeleteLove the color. Where did you find this wonderful dough bowl?
ReplyDeleteI found that in Asheville, NC last year. Thanks
DeleteYou are good...it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI love blues and grays so I really love the way you mixed all the colors and finishes to achieve this look. I loved the fabric you added to the doors before, so I am going to miss that a little bit. Although I know once I see the whole room put together this change is going to make a lot of sense and it is going to look amazing in the newly redesigned family room!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Can't wait to see the rest.
ReplyDeleteI loved what you did to that piece at first with the fabric decoupage...I thought it was brilliant! But I also understand when decorating changes are in order!!
ReplyDeleteI likes! Very pretty blue!
ReplyDeleteLoved it before and love it now!
ReplyDeleteI always say, we have to live with what makes US happy. I can't wait to see all the new plans put together!!!
ReplyDeleteThat turned out pretty! I like the grey color. Of course I love grey always! Looking forward to seeing your full room reveal once your chair comes in.
ReplyDeleteI like refreshing an old piece, and falling in love with it again!
ReplyDeleteLooks gorgeous :)
Popped over after seeing this on FB Kim. Love how you can still see the faint toile!
ReplyDeleteLove it, Kim! Can't wait to see how the room turns out -- it will be fabulous as always!!
ReplyDeleteI think it's the perfect color! Great job Kim! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the color it was and the new color. I'd have preferred a light wash over the art portion instead of covering it so much, but that's what's so wonderful about this blog. It's yours to do with as you please!
ReplyDeleteNothing ventured nothing gained! And I love it!!! I also love that the fabric image is still there only not as bold. I am the same way...can't have anything stay the same for too long...I like change. Can't wait to see your finished space!
ReplyDeleteXO Barbara
I love the new colour and the new simpler look you gave to the piece.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I better go check instagram so I can see the rug too.
