So finally all the pieces of the puzzle for the great room have come in and been put in place and I am loving the fresh look in here. I know some of you loved the red and I did for years, but I am loving this so much more. For me it is just time.
I took these pictures last week and there has actually been another change in here since taking these. Yep, what can I say, but I went antiquing again and found something new.....well, old actually. So I will share the new new look in here soon.
I had to add a pop of pretty color with these tulips. Tulips just say spring.
The main item I was waiting on for months is this new sofa. I am loving it because now I can swap out pillows without any problem. The leopard ones are the newest ones I found at Scott's Antique Market. I knew they would work well with the toile pillows since the colors are the same.
I love the shape of this sofa with the slightly arched back.
This is a new rug from West Elm that I got on sale and it's a nice light color that will go with anything.
I shared the sideboard makeover and I have actually sanded a bit more of the paint off the fabric inserts on the doors.
I'm loving my queen chair as I'm calling it. It's like sitting on a throne.
This old stool got a cute new ticking cover that I bought from Antique Farmhouse recently.
This old stool got a cute new ticking cover that I bought from Antique Farmhouse recently.
I swapped the drum table that was here with this antique table I bought in France that was in one of the guest rooms. It works well with the new furniture.
This is the inlaid pattern on the top of the table.
You know what? I don't miss the red at all. I am so in love with the fresh new look, but like I said this look has changed a bit more and I will share the new look soon.
Luvly Kim.
ReplyDeleteIn December we went lighter as well. The only dark piece is our, my leather chair. Bo regrets. The lighter neutral is so much easier to work with.
I think you and I really are joined at the hip. His leather chair is the only dark piece, too. Thanks
DeleteWhat is your paint color. Love it! I too, want to go neutral! 😍
ReplyDeleteLori, it's Manchester Tan by Benjamin Moore.
DeleteOf course I like it - I've always loved the neutral look and gone with it for many years. Our sofa and larger upholstered pieces are all neutral and bed covers are ivory. Add in a few leather and wood pieces and color with accessories. Have always loved soft colors and our main accent colors are shades of aqua/blue, except my husband's office which is a bit darker/masculine. I ordered a sample of that animal print. BTW, Sudi no longer sells at Scotts so that may not be who made your pillows??? Enjoy the "new" room!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tina!
DeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carol!
DeleteLove, love the new look...the sofa was worth waiting for!....Those pillows are perfect. You must so very happy with the way the room evolved as you sit in that chair fit for a queen!
ReplyDeleteYes, very happy!
DeleteBeautiful Kim! I love red; wonder if I'll ever be without a bit of it even just one room with no red? Actually, my dining room has no red...that's one room!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
Thanks, Cindy. I don't know you will lose the red if your taste changes like mine did. :)
DeleteI really like the fresh look of this room! is the rug a true khaki/tan or would it work with gray tones also? I have wishlisted the same rug but I cannot tell on my screen if it is a cross between gray and tan, or would just be best with tan tones.
ReplyDeleteSusan it is a light gray. I too thought it would be a khaki.
DeleteThank you. It really blends beautifully with your new table and furniture.
DeleteThanks!
DeleteHow lovely the room turned out. I wish you could redo my great room, but since you live to far away I will take inspiration from your gorgeous room.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debra. Sorry, I'm not closer.
DeleteThe room is lovely - your neutral decor looks great in the space - that chair is divine!! I just recently changed over from reds and yellows which I loved, to mostly grays & whites, because like you, was so ready for a change. I am loving a neutral palette, it makes decorating so much easier and is so calming to my eye.
ReplyDeleteI know you must be loving the neutrals like I am. Thanks!
DeleteI LOVE it....so beautiful!!! The sofa was worth the wait......
ReplyDelete~Des
Thanks, Des!
DeleteKim, your space is light-filled with beautiful furnishings! I know you will enjoy mixing pillows and a little color wherever you want!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pam. Yes, this will be fun switching up the pillows!
DeleteI LOVE IT!!! just gorgeous, everything, the new furniture, the new color palette, all of it is just perfect together!! May I ask where did you found the toile pillows on your couch, I love them! Thanks Kim!!
ReplyDeleteThose are old and also found at Scott's antique market. Thanks!
DeleteThank you !! :)
DeleteHi Kim! Your sofa was worth the wait and aggravation - it's gorgeous! I do predict however that the equally beautiful new chair isn't long for that spot. The high back sort of blocks the room and I think you'll be moving it somewhere else. I notice the leather recliner is aimed straight at the TV and realize that can't change, although swapping places with the high backed chair and the recliner would probably work great, but then you'd have a very unhappy husband and that would not be a good thing. I just love your blog and look forward to seeing everything you do. Thank you! And P.S. That leather recliner is a great piece in the room, too, and accentuates and complements the different wood tones in the room, the marble on the fireplace and even the book bindings, but then you know that!
ReplyDeleteYes, I know the chair blocks the view from the foyer, but not from anywhere else. Yes, that chair will probably change out from time to time. I would love to move his recliner, but he has to have the table and lamp next to his chair for reading. Thanks!
Delete(Mrs. Rick here) Your new furniture looks quite wonderful in your room, but I have to admit that my eye kept gravitating to your beautifully styled bookcases in the background. Those wooden boxes, the leather-bound books, the painting of the dogs...it all just works so well together! And you used to say that you couldn't style bookcases!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mrs. Rick! I do have a hard time and stand there and look and look and then things will start working. It is not easy for me and they have been like this for some time. Afraid to mess with them too much.
DeleteIt looks great! I love your choice of softer neutral colors. I like the antique table beside your sofa too. It's too bad that mr savvy requires his recliner because having two of those tufted chairs together would be amazing!
ReplyDeleteYes, him and that darn chair!!
DeleteIt's all so fresh and light, love the new furniture pieces! just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debra, I'm loving the new look, too!
DeleteLoving the new fresh look! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Darrielle!
DeleteLove the new look! Good call bringing the French table to the grouping. It goes nicely with the leather chair. I just love the fabric on your sofa. And the coffee table is great too! So much pretty in your room! Happy spring!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sheila. Yes, I'm glad I have things in other rooms that can be swapped out when needed!
DeleteGorgeous! You are such an inspiration. I'm hoping some day my husband agrees to lighten our family room starting with a light color paint for our fireplace.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful Kim. I love that brass lamp on the French table.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Penny!
DeleteThe new room is lovely. Enjoy! I like the old one too. Red is one of my favorite colors. However, you are going through a new phase and it is a nice one! Take care.
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely going through something. Thanks!
DeleteLove the new look. I think this time of year, we all feel like lightening things up. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteShelley
Shelley, this started back in September when I just wanted to lighten it all up and then I ordered the sofa in October and have been waiting!
DeleteYour room looks fabulous. I got to see that sofa at Ethan Allen last weekend and it's sharp! Love the antique table mixed with the room and many other details like the sofa table set up. The pillows are such a perfect look. The fireplace looks beautiful all one color now and your queen chair is pretty cute! I had a red sofa that I let go of a few years back and I went with a plain fabric rather than a print and I'm so happy with that decision. As you know it leaves flexibility to change the look of the room just by adding things like different pillows. You have great vision!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Liz. Yes, much more flexible now!
DeleteFresh and pretty. And it's an open canvas for other seasonal touches that can come and go. Good job!
ReplyDeleteYes, it sure is, Rusha. Thanks!
DeletePerfection! Love how you have styled your bookcases and your buffet. Love the pillow mix of toile and leopard on sofa and that cute little hunt pillow on the chair by the buffet. The chair looks wonderful. Such a great mix of antiques and new. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, sjr!
DeleteLovely ! Just lovely . ..may your family have many joyous memories in this beautiful space.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joyce!
DeleteSoooo pretty! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Andrea!
DeleteIt's perfection! Cheers, Ardith
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteIt's a beautiful room, Kim. I love everything about it but I think my favorite thing is your new coffee table!
ReplyDeleteThanks, JoAnne and I picked that out without seeing it first. Glad I did good.
DeleteWhat a gorgeous living room! I love your new sofa. I also like the mix of the modern rug, it keeps the space feeling fresh. Kim, seriously I wish you were my shopping buddy;)Or I wish I had a little Kim sitting on my shoulder that I could consult when I'm buying things for my house!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kate. You are so funny.....a little Kim sitting on your shoulder. Just pretend I'm on your shoulder. Ha ha
DeleteI like the new look. Yes, it is fresher and more "modern". My sister and BIL just moved into their new home last week after a year and a half build. I am so in love with the colors. http://www.uptownacorn.com/2016/03/chateau-lapeyre-move-in-day.html
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ron. Wow, a year and a half is a long time.
DeleteOh! The wide plank floors and beams are from a century-old building in N. Mississippi.
ReplyDeleteYour new room looks beautiful, Kim!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Thanks, Mary Alice!
DeleteLove your neutral room. I too used to have a lot of red in our family room, and it was so limiting. We have gone neutral with pillows and accessories for pops of color.
ReplyDeleteYes, the red was more limiting than I realized, but that sofa was a very good one and I used it for 15 years. Thanks
DeleteOh, my gosh--just gorgeous, Kim. I love the new sofa and chair, and your pillows are perfect, along with the marvelous textures. I am totally loving this room!
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks, Michael Lee!!
DeleteI can see the changes...makes me want to sing (but you wouldn't want me to:-)
ReplyDeleteHa ha, Janet!
DeleteEverything looks beautiful! We have yet to go sofa shopping, but I do plan on checking out Ethan Allen. Our old sofa was from EA, and it's held up very well. Love all the pretty changes.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Suzanne. I do love the new sofa, but I will not shop there again. Poor customer service!
DeleteLove the new look.I wanted this look as well but practicality won out. Black dog and white sofa don"t mix. How is Bailey, BTW?
ReplyDeleteKim it is a classic, love the neutral direction you are going in, however I must say I did ♥♥♥ the colors in your sun room, it was my favorite room in your house. I know you will have so much fun with the neutral base, and I bet you will be adding color along the way!!
ReplyDeleteKim, this is a gorgeous room either way, but I agree that the neutrals are terrific. All the light in this room is perfect for this look. I love the new sofa and your queen chair. Of course the toile pillows have long been a favorite for me. A neutral sofa is perfect for switching out different pillows.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah!
ReplyDeleteLove the new look, and I must say that your gorgeous new sofa is the perfect canvas for your pillow collection!!! Hoping to remove some of the red in our living area sometime this year.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jane. Didn't know you want less red, too.
DeleteDo the pillows on the back of the sofa come off? Are they attached? I'm thinking in terms of cleaning and fluffing.
ReplyDeleteThey are removable. I never buy attached cushions.
DeleteIt all looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pamela!
DeleteGorgeous ... love the lighter look!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Becca, me, too!
Deletekim I love the new look! That table you purchased in France is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindy. Yes, that was a very lucky find.
DeleteYour new furniture is beautiful Kim. Love the pillows and rug too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen!
DeleteI was so excited to see your new great room decor and furniture today, Kim. Everything is just gorgeous! You're such a great decorator!!
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful, Kim! Love how everything comes together!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Laurel!
ReplyDeleteYour room looks gorgeous Kim! Love your new sofa and "Queen" chair. I"m sure you'll have so much fun dressing up your new neutral room.
ReplyDeleteI love your new furniture. Everything looks so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteKathy
the wait was certainly worth it. the room looks amazing and I am sure you are rockin it in your queens chair. i am happy for you and your beautiful space. enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving that sofa...it looks comfortable and not so huge that it swallows the room. Great spring tour, Thanks, Sandi
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! You did a fabulous job! It's all very beautiful and homey. You changed something again? I'm shocked! Hehehe...that's why we love you:D You keep it interesting!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cindy!
DeleteOh, I'm not missing the red either. Your new great room is so fresh and beautiful! I love to see the little and big changes you keep on tackling all around your home. The stool with that little slip is so adorable!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cristina!
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful Kim....I love how light and bright it is....so many changes this year for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sherry. Yes, I need light and bright!!
DeleteI love what you've done with the room. It looks cosy, welcoming and airy at the same time. And it'll be so easy to add a little pop of colour when you want it.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I love a neutral colour scheme with just a pop of colour as an accent here and there. So much fun changing everything around all the time, my house tends to remain somewhat the same, the guest house is where I get to play! As it is one bedroom only with a very large sitting room I get to keep it somewhat minimalist whilst also incorporating everything I want, our eldest daughter who is a design student says it is like my dolls house, except I get to play for real!
