The guestroom that used to be filled with lots of red is now much calmer and serene with newly painted white walls, neutral bedding. and changed out art and accessories all by using what I already had on hand except for one new picture I picked up at an antique market last month.
I'm so glad I have my stash to pull things from since I change things frequently. I replaced the red ticking bed skirt with my favorite buffalo checked one that started out in the master years ago, then the other guestroom, and now this room.
I had almost gotten rid of this starburst mirror, that I bought at Hobby Lobby years ago, and I'm glad I didn't. I have tried two different paintings over the bed and this mirror and the mirror won.....for now.
Off whites with just a touch of the palest blue is all that's needed on the bed along with this grain sack pillow.
I moved the pair of cow prints from the foyer, they hung on the wall over the stairs, to this wall close to the bed.
I moved the pair of cow prints from the foyer, they hung on the wall over the stairs, to this wall close to the bed.
This is the new painting I bought at an antique market last month. I tried this over the bed, but with the glare from the windows you couldn't see the picture. I love the peaceful church scene. The artist info is attached to the back.
Instead of the red bench that was in this spot I stacked these old lidded baskets. I recently decided to paint the top one.
I replaced the old trunk with this table I bought and made over last year and I replaced the red lamps with these from the other guestroom.
On the table is a majolica dish so our guests have a place to set their loose items like jewelry and change.
I always keep some reading material in the room.
I kept the same table on the other side and added this ironstone bowl filled with fishing floats and a clock.
These are just for fun.
The post about the armoire transformation is here.
New wall paint color is White Dove by Benjamin Moore and the new carpet is by Mohawk.
I'm loving the lighter brighter feel in this room!
All the red bedding and accessories I had are saved for now to be used in the bonus room which has the extra guest bed in it. I need to clean that room out and prime and paint it. Another project on the list of things to do.
Have an awesome week!
So, so pretty! Lucky guests....
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol.
DeleteIt looks very calm and peaceful Kim.
ReplyDeleteThanks Penny. I do like it much better now.

ReplyDeleteLynda @ Gates of Crystal
Thank you Lynda.
DeleteBeautiful! Very warm and inviting!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lisa.
DeleteThe soft neutrals and blues are so serene. I, like you, am over red. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I have heard others say they are over red, too. I still like it, but don't want my house filled with it.
DeleteYour room looks lovely! Will you tell me how you are getting the numbers on your baskets--- spray paint or stenciling? Thank you and I love your blog. You are one busy gal.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne, I did those free hand and believe me they aren't very good, but that's ok because the old baskets that I have bought that way are free handed too. I use whatever paint I have on hand. I used a black chalk paint for that.
DeleteThank you for your info --- I'm not sure if I'm that brave!
DeleteLove it, so fresh and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary.
DeleteThis room turned out so gorgeous! Very calming with the perfect touches of color. Your basket caught my eye!!! It looks beautiful painted that color:) It's all very beautiful, Kim.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cindy.
DeleteKim, as always this room is beautiful. The soft colors in there are so serene. Everything looks great with your new carpet too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Stacy. Yes, the new carpet made the biggest difference.
DeleteI see it's Mohawk carpet- is there a style name? LOVE IT
DeleteA beautiful room that any guest will love! Happy Monday, Kim!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam.
DeleteSo lovely and so peaceful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lin.
DeleteLove your room!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Thank you Pamela.
DeleteWhat color is,your bedside table? ♡♡♡
ReplyDeleteStacey, if you are talking about the gray one there is a link under that photo to the original post. The white one is Ironstone by Miss Mustard Seed milk paint.
DeleteThis is such a lovely room, Kim! Your guests will want to stay forever! Love the pop of red from the tulips!
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. Not sure I want them to stay forever!!
DeleteLots of nice touches! Love the color scheme and the carpet.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jacqueline.
DeleteOH Kim, it is beautiful!!! The soothing colours, that amazing armoire.... Packing a bag as I type :)
ReplyDeleteCome on, girl!
DeleteAs always so pretty. Love the calm that seems to just ooze from the room!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm loving the calm, too. Seems to be what I crave these days.
DeleteSo charming and I love, love, love the deep ruffle on the pale blue pillowcases - and there's no denying that the red tulips bring that dash of personality into the room!
ReplyDeleteThanks Theresa. I bought the blue shams from an etsy shop a year or so ago.
DeleteLovely, Kim!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debbie.
DeleteYou get more done than anyone I know. Your room looks lovely. Any guest would feel comfortable in this space.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sarah. I think it may just look like I get a lot done. :)
DeleteI absolutely love this guest room and lucky person(s) who get to stay in here, it has all the elements of a perfectly serene and peaceful and very stylish room. My absolute favourite colours, white, grey and a touch of pale blue (just how my bedroom is!) and I love the buffalo check bed skirt. Very French (from one who lives in France) and utterly gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAwe, what a sweet compliment for someone who actually lives in France. Thanks
DeleteI've recently had rooms repainted using BM's White Dove, and I'm convinced it's the most satisfying white ever!
ReplyDeleteI agree Vicki. I wish I had tried it sooner.
DeleteReally pretty!
ReplyDeleteThank you Patti.
Deletekim, i love how your switcheroo's come together so beautifully. The room is so lovely and calm. Sweet dreams.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura.
DeleteYour guest bedroom is very soothing and comfortable. Your guests will love it very much. You did a wonderful job on the decorations.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Mary
Thank you Mary.
DeleteSo peaceful and charming Kim! Love what you've done with this room! Xo, ~julie
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie.
DeleteLooks wonderful...love the new fresh look and how great that you were able to shop the house and create a beautiful new look to the guest room!
ReplyDeleteThanks and it's ready for your visit!
DeleteWhere did you get the blue pillow cases
ReplyDeleteJamie, I found them on an etsy shop over a year ago. I can't remember which shop. Just search ruffled linen shams and I think you will find some.
DeleteI am going to fight Shirley to stay in this gorgeous room! LOL! I LOOOOVE the new look of the armoire, and the whole room looks beautiful. Love the new picture and those lamps.
ReplyDeleteOh WOW! Your guest room looks totally different! The colors are so soothing and serene, and I might never leave if I spent the night there! Love the new painting of the church, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jane. I love that painting, too.
DeleteI love that the bedside tables are both round but they don't match.
ReplyDeleteI really like the colors, too. I have to paint the windows and interior shutters of our renovation gray--historical preservation rules--and I'm struggling to make the regulation gray work with the colors I had hoped for. This really helps.
I love the new look and colors. You always amaze me with your ability to completely change a room. So talented, Kim!
ReplyDeleteShelley
This is such a pretty room, so similar to what I'm trying to achieve in my own guest room. The comforter at the end of the bed - is that a duvet and would you mind sharing where you found it?
ReplyDeleteDebra, it is several years old and from Pottery Barn. It is a comforter.
DeleteThanks
Such a beautiful space!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHow pretty, I love those checks!
ReplyDeleteI love your restful guest room. And the pop of color from the tulips is so fresh and fun. I was once told by an interior designer that blues and greens are the most restful colors for bedrooms. And I personally love the use of whites too. Lovely, peaceful room.
ReplyDeleteI really like your new color scheme in this room. Although I loved your rustic farmhouse style guest room too. Now, both of your guest rooms are similar! You will enjoy being able to swap things around more easily.
ReplyDeleteLove everything about this place Kim! I have been on the hunt for an old hay fork.
ReplyDeleteSo peaceful and serene Kim and I love your painted basket!
ReplyDeleteIt's a very serene room, one in which it must be very nice to relax after a nice day spent chatting with friends.
ReplyDeleteSpending some time this morning catching up on what you've been decorating. I love the carpet, that was the first thing that caught my eye, and you know...you can make a bed like nobody's business.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous update Kim! I really loved this room with all the red touches, but this serene room is equally beautiful. Love the carpet, the pillows, the bed skirt...
ReplyDeleteLove your update ,it so pretty.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day
So beautiful....and peaceful! I loved the reds of the bedroom before, but I am also loving all of the neutrals! I think my favorites are the bedding and the armoire! Thanks for sharing! Happy Weekend....
ReplyDeleteWhat a great room. I love the blue ruffled shams on the bed with all the neutrals. It doesn't get any prettier...and the ruffled lamp shades add that bit of feminity that I love without being too sugary sweet.
ReplyDeleteAll your rooms always look great, your bedrooms always look awesome.
ReplyDeleteLove the changes! I especially love the grainsack tote (and the added tulips are a cute touch!). Can you share the source? I looked on Etsy but didn't see anything similar. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I bought it from Decor Steals a couple of years ago or Antique Farmhouse. Thanks
DeleteNicely put together. Simple and perfect.
ReplyDeleteOh so so adorably decorated ... I love it
