I know this is a home and garden blog, but there is a person behind the blog and I thought I would share the products I use to clean and moisturize my face. There are no affiliate links and I'm not trying to sell you anything. I'm just sharing what I use for my sixty almost......ahem 61 year old skin.
I used to use mostly Roc products and they worked well, but I switched about a year ago to some No7 products for moisturizing.
The first thing I use every single night and have since I was a teen to remove my eye makeup is good ole Vaseline. Cheap, lasts for months and works great. No need for fancy eye makeup removers. I just rub a bit on my closed eyelid and then wipe it off with tissue.
I have mostly used Aveeno products to clean my face and I'm using Positively Radiant now. I only wash my face at night before bed and then just use a clean wet washcloth to clean my face in the morning before applying moisturizers. I even heard a dermatologist on t.v. the other day say it is best to cleanse only once a day so you don't over strip the oils in your skin.
After cleansing my face I apply this serum. You can find these No7 products at Target.
Then I apply the these moisturizers. One is for day and one for night.
Eye cream is next.
I normally get ready for bed pretty early so I can just relax and be ready for bed as I get sleepy.
Bedtime is normally 11 every night and I get up between 6:30 and 7 or earlier everyday. Miss Bailey is waking me up earlier and earlier because it gets light out early.
A routine of trying to go to bed and get up at the same time is best and sleep is so important for good skin. I'm very lucky that I was blessed with good genes. I used to curse the breakouts I had from my teen years till probably my forties and then found out all that oil was a good thing.
I took this selfie several months ago showing my new glasses on instagram. My hair is basically the same except a bit shorter for summer. I wear contacts during the day.
I'll share my make up products soon if anyone is interested.
Happy Thursday!
Happy Thursday!
You are so pretty! Your routine must be working for you. Love the glasses too! I'd be interested in your makeup products. Have you discovered NYX eyeliner yet? cheap and stays on all day.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joan. No, I haven't tried that. I may need to check that out. That is one thing that seems to melt away by the end of the day.
DeleteWell Ms. Savvy, I think you look freakin' awesome for being, ahem...almost 60😉 Love your hair cut too! I'm one of those that always wished I could wear short hair, but I always keep it long because it's less maintenance believe it or not. Thanks for sharing what keeps you beautiful as always!
ReplyDeleteAhem, almost 61, Cindy and thank you!
DeleteI would love to know what make up you use. You have beautiful skin!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim! It truly is good genes though. My mom doesn't look 83 years young.
DeleteFor years I used Cetaphil cleanser as my derm recommended, but in the past year switched to CeraVe (both will remove eye makeup too). LOVE it. It has HA which is so important for moisture. I do use it twice a day. I use a Vitamin A Serum and a retinol product for anti-aging. I also use an eye cream. Two important points - continue the face routine on your neck and even your chest (I like to include some of my products on the tops of my hands too!) and ALWAYS use sunscreen. Daily!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of No. 7 products, thanks for the review.
Tina, I use CeraVe on my body and love it. I also apply my face products to my neck. No. 7 is only at Target and they have an SPF and my makeup does, too. I apply a heavy sunscreen when I work in the yard.
DeleteI don't really do make-up (foundation) plus I want a high SPF on my face especially. I'm an outdoor loving girl and we spend time on the lake.
DeleteOh, my face is not good without foundation. I have lots of dark spots from years of worshiping the sun. After my husband's skin cancer scare this year the only time I'm in the sun is about one day a week working in the yard. Hat, gloves and sunscreen while I'm out.
DeleteI have had Basal Cell and Mohs surgery - have another spot I'm going to have to have removed. But we love the outdoors (and outdoor activities) so I take precautions. I can't handle gloves though! Yes, I'm paying for my younger years!
DeleteWe see a MOHS doctor and he had two basal cell carcinomas taken off.
DeleteFor those of us that don't live near a Target store, you can also order No7 on Amazon online. I love No7, too. No7 also has a tube of cream to fade facial brown spots...it doesn't completely get rid of them but definitely fades them enough that foundation or tinted moisturizer will cover them. Would love to see your makeup favorites...I'm a make-up junkie!
DeleteBeautiful!! Would love to see your makeup products!
ReplyDeleteThank you Robyn!
DeleteLove your glasses and your hair!
ReplyDeleteIs Vaseline OK to use around eyes? I switched to micellaire water (I use Bioderma, which isn't expensive)--it removes makeup really well and is marked as approved for ophthalmic use.
As far as I know it's fine and like I said I have used it since day 1 when I was a teen and it works great. Why wouldn't it be?
DeleteI had to smile when I read this because even these pictures are styled with a neat background! I have been hearing a lot lately about the Number 7 products so I need to check them out. I look forward to hearing about the makeup too!
ReplyDeleteHa ha Susan! Best light is in the sunroom. Thanks!
DeleteWell, no wonder you look like a cutie-patooty! Thanks for sharing - p.s. I have your same exact haircut! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, we do have the same cut don't we?!! Thanks!
DeleteNever looked into the No. 7 products....still use Lancome....still wish they had "plastic surgery in a jar" !! Love the new glasses....
ReplyDeleteYes, someone needs to invent that and quickly!!!
DeleteI've seen the #7 products at Target, but never tried them. I will give the night cream a try 1st because I've been looking for a good one. You look much younger than 61 and better yet enjoy life & have good energy! Your blog is great Kim and I hope you do tell us about your makeup. Hope your husband is doing well. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl Ann for your sweet words! Yes, he is fine and now looks at every little spot on his body and he just had the surgery and the all clear a couple months ago.
DeleteI love Boots No. 7 products! I fell in love with them when I was living in England in the 1980s.
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't know they made these that long ago.
DeleteI have been searching for a new moisturizer - will definitely give the No 7 products a try. Yes - please post about your makeup - your skin looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteYou look great Kim :) I gave up on all products years ago and went to strictly using coconut oil.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dawn. Yes, I have heard about moisturizing with coconut oil.
DeleteDefinitely interested in makeup products.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carole!
DeleteYou look great Kim. I too use Aveeno Radiantly Positive scrub every night and like how it cleanses my skin and also #7 eye cream. My daughter has been been using the #7 product line for years and is aging wonderfully; she looks as if she was in her mid 20s and will be 40 in a few months. Look forward to reading about your makeup routine.
ReplyDeleteSeems lots of folks like this line. Thanks
DeleteBeautiful !!!
ReplyDeleteYou have given me something to think about!
I spend quite a bit on my routine :/ Worth looking into for sure.
Thanks Gee!
DeleteThanks for the info..I will check out the new products. I have been using Cerve since a dermatologist recommended them for breakouts. It works well for my sensitive skin. I remember using good old noxema during my teenage years! Lol, only the best!!
ReplyDeleteI remember using Noxema, too.
DeleteLooking absolutely fabulous Kim, I think 51 sounds far more accurate. I have been a huge fan of face oils for a couple of years now. When I first read about them I was dubious, it seemed odd to put oil on our faces, but now I am hooked, I swear by them! It's all about looking as young and radiant as we can naturally and oils make the skin incredibly supple.
ReplyDeleteAwe, thanks Susan! It used to seem odd to me to add oil to my face, too, but the older I get the drier it is.
DeleteYou are just gorgeous! Almost 61??? I would never have guessed that. Thanks for sharing what works for you. Love your short sassy hair cut.
ReplyDeleteThanks, LKJ!
DeleteHey Kim - I just wanted to add a little info. I googled Boots No. 7 and there are other places that sell it (Ulta, Drugstore.com, Walgreens - may just be Walgreens.com, not sure, etc.). I may give it a try - some of these places had multi-product paks with sale prices. Good time to try it! Thank!
ReplyDeleteGood to know. It used to be strictly Target. I guess they broke away from that contract.
DeleteThis was a great post. You are just too cute.... Yes , it is nice to know what other lady's use. for their routines. It helps everyone who reads the post. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Pamela!
DeleteGorgeous, Kim! Love the hair. My sister swears by Vaseline, too. She uses it to remove her eye makeup and then she dabs on more under her eyes overnight. She has fabulous skin and is 59. You'd never know.
ReplyDeleteGood to know someone uses Vaseline.
DeleteYou look like you've lost even more weight! Yes, please share your makeup. You are ADORABLE.
ReplyDeleteOH, Bonnie you are just too too kind!! Actually I have put back on around 15 lbs and need to get it off. Getting ready to start juicing again.
DeleteWhen I was a young teenager in the 70s my mom told me that Doris Day used Vaseline as a night moisturizer. I did this for years and it works great but is a bit messy and gets in your hair. You can use it on your feet and sleep in socks for a good foot treatment. I now use baby oil for eye makeup remover. It glides on and there is no need for pulling or tugging delicate skin around eyes. I also now use Arbonne skincare products.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! You are beautiful!
Yes, it can be messy, but it is a good moisturizer. Yes, great for the feet. I wish I liked to sleep in socks. Thanks so much for reading and leave a comment more often. :)
DeleteKim, keep doing what you're doing because it sure is working for you!!! My SIL has been using the Boots #7 serum for several years now and swears by it! I think the most important thing is having some sort of routine no matter what products we use.
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous Kim! I will have to look into the No. 7 products. Trying to fight off crows feet in this 41 year old body!;)
