I am so excited to dress the deck this year in red, white and blue to celebrate Independence Day! Last July we were in the process of transforming the deck so I wasn't able to have fun adding some patriotic flair. I love having this outside space to decorate. It's like having two more rooms to play house in. One side for relaxing and one for dining. Today I'm sharing the seating side.
I took most of the pictures in the morning or early evening, but this one is at midday and shows how bright this spot can get.......and HOT!
The DIY Flag that Mr. Savvy made hangs proudly. I also love the fact that he has been cleaning out all the undergrowth in the wooded area close to our yard. The view from the deck looks so much nicer.
All the outdoor pillows and rug that were out here before are stacked up in the sunroom until I put them back. I'm going to enjoy it like this for a bit.
The pillows are not outdoor pillows. They are from my stash. The star pillow is old from Pottery Barn, the Summer pillow I found at HomeGoods last year and the yellow and blue nautical flag pillow is old. I like that pop of yellow tossed in the mix.
The red striped lumbar pillow with buttons and fringe was found at HomeGoods last year, the blue striped one is old from Pottery Barn and the red ticking box pillow is from French Laundry Home found at the Country Living Fair a few years ago.
When rain is a threat I just throw the pillows in the house and throw the tarp over the furniture, well except today I managed to get the pillows tossed into the house, but the tarp didn't get put on before a pop up shower hit and lasted for an hour. Now the cushions are standing up and draining. Oy!
I wanted some red flowers so I picked up some geraniums. I usually don't have luck with them so we shall see.
I mixed a bit of nautical with the red, white and blue. It all says summer.
The cute octopus pillow is old from HomeGoods. I bought the vintage fishing float last year at an antique shop while on vacation.
I bought a new hydrangea bush for the blue, but it only has one bloom so far that is just opening. We will transplant this in the fall.
The flag pillow is another old Pottery Barn cover. I actually have two of them.
BTW it was a sauna on the deck while I took most of the photos. Oh, what I do for this blog and I'd do it again!
I hope y'all have a fabulous holiday weekend and I can't wait to show you the cute patriotic table out here soon!
I hope y'all have a fabulous holiday weekend and I can't wait to show you the cute patriotic table out here soon!
I love the flag Mr. Savvy did....What an addition to the deck!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the festive 4th of July summer look! Mr. Savvy did a fabulous job on the flag! Is that a classic car project I saw in your garage? I need new cushions for my patio love seat! I would love to be able to do a red, white and blue theme.
ReplyDeleteSandy, yes, that is an old camaro in my hubby's garage. He has been restoring old cars.
DeleteI love it. That splash of yellow really adds to it. Love the flag!
ReplyDeleteI love this look!
ReplyDeleteIs your wicker furniture weather resistant or actual wicker?
I have antique wicker and would love to put it on a porch-- thoughts?
Kim, the patriotic deck is so inviting! Mr. Savvy did a terrific job on the flag...love all the red, white, and blue! Happy 4th! Pam @ Everyday Living
ReplyDeleteSandy, This looks amazing! I love the flag, pillows, rug, red table, geraniums...It is a wonderful place to sit, relax, and enjoy the 4th! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty, but I have so many questions:
ReplyDeleteDo you take in the carpet when it rains or does the tarp cover it?
Does the pergola offer enough shade?
Do you leave the cushions out overnight when there's no rain?
Thinking about different yard furniture and would like to know the living-with-it angles. Our neighbor has about six cats, which wreak havoc on anything soft in our yard. We love her too much to complain and anyway, cats will do as they please. I am trying to calculate the amount of work involved before investing.
Everything out there is meant to be outdoors except the pillows I just used for this look. If there is rain forecasted I put the tarp over it all and yes it covers the rug, too, but the rug is an indoor/outdoor and meant to get wet. No, cats around here! The pergola offers a bit of shade certainly not full coverage. We don't use this space this time of year when it's super hot anyway except early morning or evening.
DeleteSpectacular deck all dressed in Americana and as always you have the greatest pillow collection....Mr Savvy did a wonderful job on the flag...and must say that your hanging baskets are gorgeous!....Have a great and safe 4th!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it, Kim. Those pillows that you so lovingly hoard sure come in handy to dress things up, don't they? That Summer pillow is GREAT! Your woods look just great where MrSavvy has cleaned up the undergrowth. It is pretty to look at from the deck.
ReplyDeleteThat hanging flag is gorgeous. I might need one of those!!!
Happy 4th to you and your family- xo Diana
Tell Mr. Savvy he blew it out of the water with that flag, it looks awesome on the deck!!! The pillows are each one interesting and perfect. What an incredible deck. Maybe you could get one of those umbrellas that swings across a seating space to cut down on the heat during the day. Love the rug, perfect to go with the R W & B. I'd love to sit on that patriotic deck and sip sweet tea with you - you did good!
ReplyDeleteMary
I LOVE the patriotic colors out here, they are just so YOU! Mr. Savy's flag is fabulous! I may have my Joe do one for our deck. Have a safe and fun 4th weekend. Can't wait to see the other side!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely and festive! Kim, when are you going to write your own home decorating book?
ReplyDeleteOh Kim, I love when you add red to your rooms, even better when adding the other colors of the flag. Love, love LOVE everything!
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful! Here is a hint to make indoor pillows outdoors- spray scotch guard on them to prevent water damage. The water won't be absorbed. Also there is uva/uvb spray one can purchase at JoAnn's that you can spray on them to prevent fading in the sun. Doesn't make them hard just protects those precious pillows so they can be indoor or outdoor pillows! Love your posts! -Fondly, Your California Friend
ReplyDeleteI love seeing this space Kim! Such gorgeous, vibrant colors and I love the flag! You answered my question about what you do with your cushions. I always wonder how people handle having cushions in an uncovered area. Even though they usually say they are "indoor-outdoor", we all know that they still get soggy with too much rain! Enjoy your 4th and I hope it cools down a little so you can enjoy the deck more!

It looks very festive! I love all of the great pillows you have.
ReplyDeleteYour deck looks gorgeous all decked out for the holiday! I love that bucket with the red rim and the red handle. Just about perfect for that geranium! Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteMr. Savy's flag looks FABULOUS! I also have the flag pillows from PB and love them.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking fantastic and a really friendly welcoming place to be. Hope you are going to have lots of friends over and have a wonderful 4th July weekend. Susan x
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous Kim, I love all the pillows, perfect and the flag.
ReplyDeleteThe deck looks great - ready for the 4th of July, but not too much! I love red geraniums. They are some of my favorite outdoor flowering plants - mostly, because they remind me of the great flower boxes in Paris (and throughout France).
ReplyDeleteBest & Bisous,
Michelle from Simply Santa Barbara
Oh Kim it is gorgeous!!!! The 4th of July is my fave holiday and your back porch looks so pretty, festive and relaxing. Have a great week end. Enjoy.

I just love that rug! Your outdoor space looks ready for entertaining.

Your deck is perfect for summer!
ReplyDeleteOh, I remember a time when your deck looked so different but it is a shining star right now! What a perfect place to begin your day and end your evening, and Mr. Savvy's flag is an awesome addition!
ReplyDeleteI love the deck and how you made it into another room. And your pillow collection is spectacular, along with Mr. Savvy's flag.
ReplyDeleteYour deck is so lovely for the Fourth of July, and for all summer long for that matter! The white buckets filled with the blooming plants are such a nice contrast to the greenery and the pretty blooms. That diy flag is great. Enjoy your summer on your deck!
ReplyDeleteYour deck looks like such a great place to relax with friends or a good book.
