It has been one hot and sticky summer and I am dreaming about fall and cooler days. I can't wait to be able to sit out on the deck again and to cook and eat outside. We haven't done that since July 4th. The good thing about living in the south is it usually stays warm enough to enjoy the outdoors through November. So while I am dreaming of fall I thought I would share how I like to decorate for fall. I don't do a lot of cutesy things, but I add texture and color, bring in nature, and add pillows and accessories that say it's getting cooler outside so let's make it cozy inside.
Feathers and amber colors in the foyer say fall.

So easy to just cut some crape myrtle branches from the yard and place them in a vase or a confit pot like I used and place them on the mantel.
Last year a cozy throw and a fall pillow were added to the sitting room.
I filled this old trophy with some feathers and dried pods.

A basket of goodies added texture in the great room last year. This year will be the first fall without the red sofa and chair and I can't wait to add fall with the new furniture.
I lucked up on this trapper's basket last year and tucked some fall foliage in it.

Silver tray, large ironstone punch bowl, velvet pumpkins, and some real pumpkins for a fall vignette in the dining room.
Apples are always perfect for fall decor.
Sunflowers certainly make me think of fall.
Of course mums. Big colorful mums. This was last fall's deck.
The mums are for sale again at Costco in the large size like these for $10.99, but it is still too hot so I'm going to wait a bit. They sold quickly last year.
I realized I used vintage items to add my fall decor to in every photo.
I hope you found some new ideas to use in your own homes.
So come on fall......we're ready!

you do fall so well in your house. I don't have a Costco membership I should get one just for the massive mums.
ReplyDeleteLove, love seeing your Fall decor from last year....I am so ready for Fall thinking that maybe if I start putting some fall things out, the temperatures will drop!....Wishful thinking!...Oh BTW, I think Bailey forgot to put that apple basket in my car!!!
ReplyDeleteAll pretty vignettes Love fall.
ReplyDeleteI'm hanging on to summer kicking and screaming! LOL I like Fall - Spring is my very favorite but I do like Fall. I don't care for the fall colors and don't use those colors in our home. Will use orange pumpkins outside but thank goodness we now have blue and white pumpkins! We cook outside year-round (except the very coldest) and thank goodness for our umbrellas and the fact that our back outside areas get shade by late afternoon. We are outdoor people - can't stay inside! Still very warm here (warmer/more humid this weekend) and I've not seen mums/pumpkins, etc. yet. I usually don't do all that till October.
ReplyDeleteTina, bloggers have to start a bit early. We are kind of like the stores, but not quite that far ahead.
DeleteYay! You have me excited for fall. I think I have a craft appointment with some DIY pumpkins this weekend...just to get ready. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in Florida, I couldn't wait for summer to be over, anything to try and live in a climate with slightly lower humidity. But here in SW France, it is just as hot, some days are even hotter, well over 100F, but we have virtually zero humidity and so it is a lovely heat and as a result I don't want summer to end at all!
ReplyDeletethat trapper's basket full of leaves is just gorgeous! your subtle touches are perfect. I'm about ready to bring out a few small bits and pieces, since I'm usually ready for Fall by mid-summer!
ReplyDeleteI love your fall décor especially the feathers! I've seen them at Hob Lob but you only get 3-4 in a package. Wherever did you find them in bulk?
ReplyDeleteAmy, I bought these individually at a home decor shop over the last couple of years.
DeleteLoved seeing your fall from last year. I am in the planning stage right now. I am dying to get started, but we are back up in the 90's:(:( And it is predicted for at least the next 5 days:( I may just start anyway, this weekend:)
ReplyDeleteI am slowly inching in some fall decor.
ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration! I know you're excited to decorate around your new sofa this year!
ReplyDeleteLove the chair with the afghan and fall pillow.
ReplyDeleteGreat fall ideas Kim. Fall is my favorite time of the year.
ReplyDeleteToo early here too but your photos are gorgeous! I would love to get some of those mums but it's just too hot still. My mums from last year lived so I put them in the flower beds. They have already tried to bloom. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm ready!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim...I am so ready for fall! Nashville is hot & humid & horrible! Our poor grandson has to run cross-country in this on Saturday. It really is too much!
ReplyDeleteI love the throw and pillow idea so much ♥

Your fall decor from last year looks beautiful! My favorite time in Michigan is September and early October. WIsh I could enjoy the deck in November but I live in Michigan!
ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration, I have the items for the fall wreath purchased. With tomorrow off, after Dr. visits and mowing the lawn I plan on beginning to set the front porch for Fall.
ReplyDeleteLove all your details! I got a mum like yours from Costco this year-thought it was early, but the price of $13.99 was right. It didn't last too long,so today hubby and I planted it in the back yard. I always do that each year with the mums I get, that way I enjoy them year after year.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Noreen
I've barely thought about Fall, but I am anxious for cooler weather. It's been raining here in Michigan almost every day the last week or ten days and it doesn't cool off but just continues being hot and humid when the rain stops. I don't even want to venture outside unless I absolutely have to. I have seen some mums at a couple stores and am thinking about planting some as soon as it doesn't rain for a couple days.
ReplyDeleteSomething that I like so much for Fall decorating is bittersweet. It is hard to find here, but sometimes you can get it in flower shops or greenhouses. I don't know if it grows in the South. My grandmother always had a few sprigs in a little vase that hung on the wall. I love the bright orange berries and the go every which way branches. Hope I can find some this year to put on a wreath.
I really like your pumpkin pillow. Also the bright red apples with the checked napkin. What is the galvanized container that you used for the apples? It's just right.
Naomi, it's a vintage orchard picking bucket that I found at a flea market last year. Thanks
DeleteAutumn is my favorite season and I can't wait for that nip in the air! Beautiful vignettes, Kim! Pam @ Everyday Living
ReplyDeleteI haven't started pulling out my fall stuff yet. It's hot again here in New Jersey so I am actually looking forward to a few cooler days. I think as soon as September hits, I will start decorating. Love seeing your pieces!

We're having a heat wave right now in France, so fall seems far away, but your beautiful decoration is very inspiring.
