Last week I shared the transformation of the hutch all dressed in black, blue and some gold bling. I had no plans to paint this room after painting the hutch, but I'm glad I did. I would like the ceiling painted, too, but my neck hurts just thinking about it. I painted that ceiling around six years ago and it killed my neck then. Maybe one day we can hire someone to come in and freshen up the ceilings. The color still works though with the checked fabric in the room.
I love how much brighter the walls are now in my new favorite color White Dove by Benjamin Moore. I painted the sun room and one of the guest rooms earlier this year in this same color.
This new color is not a huge change from what was in here. The previous color was Swiss Coffee by Behr paint which was more beige.
Besides the hutch and walls getting painted I also switched some chairs around. I had pushed this bench over to the windows just to get it out of the way and I kind of liked it there so I left it for now.
I don't think I have ever shown y'all my new vintage mirror I found earlier this summer.
I spotted it when I was shopping in an antique shop and I left without it. It was one of those things that bugged me though after not buying it. A few days later I went back and it was still there. I say if it's there when I go back then it was meant to come home with me. I just love the pretty details of it.
When I unloaded the hutch, in order to move it to paint the wall behind it, I pulled out this Murano glass pitcher and glasses set that we had made for us in Venice back in 2001 on our first trip to Italy.

I've been storing it away afraid that it would get broken, but it needs to be pulled out and enjoyed for awhile. These pieces are blown glass and hand painted.
We toured the Murano glass factory and then placed our order. This was made and shipped to us several weeks later. So glad they all arrived in one piece.
View from the kitchen.
I like the doors on the hutch closed.
But I also like them open.
Which way do you like them?
After I took all these photos and had this post ready to publish something new was found for this room over the weekend so I guess I will be sharing that soon.
:)
Have an awesome week!

I prefer the doors closed. I mean for a picture they look fine open, but for everyday life, it seems kind of staged. Plus, less dust inside that way!
ReplyDeleteI like the new wall color but agree the ceiling needs to be painted now. Always something!
Love, love the refresh. Love the bench in the bay window area...a great unintended result! Doors open or closed?....I like them closed as you can see the beautiful details of the doors!
ReplyDeleteI agree on the doors. The details are so pretty.
DeleteIt's such a nice mix of classy/elegant with comfortable.
Loooove the new wall color Kim. It makes your cabinet pop. Beautiful girl!
ReplyDeleteKris
I do like the new color on the walls - I have my eye on the bowl with flowers on the table. I like the doors closed. As always, very pretty.
ReplyDeleteYour new mirror is gorgeous! For the record, I prefer the doors closed ... off to read how you refinished it :D Cynthia
ReplyDeleteKim, your dining room looks beautiful, I like the doors closed so the lovely detail of the cabinet can be seen.
ReplyDeleteLove love love the Italian glassware, such a striking set. It looks perfect with the mirror, that I adore!
Don't change that ceiling! Wow oh wow it really adds a neat punch to the room and makes the cabinet details, mirror, draperies and glass set really stand out.
I think your dining room is my favorite!

Thank you, Mary. Glad to get a positive comment about the ceiling.
DeleteIt looks great! I too love the color of the ceiling. It goes great with the curtains. What beautiful glass from Italy.
ReplyDeleteJust love the fresh new walls and that hutch reno--just gorgeous!! I love the doors open but I agree about that pesky dust!! Maybe not too practical!
ReplyDeleteWhat color paint did you use on the dining table legs/apron,(assuming you painted them and they didn't come that way)?
ReplyDeleteSometimes I take my glass doors off for a more casual look. You can always screw them back on! I love the new look!!
ReplyDeleteKim, the fresh look in the dining room is beautiful...the hutch perfectly dressed in black! The Murano glass is just gorgeous...Venice one of my favorite cities! Pam @ Everyday Living
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I like the doors closed. But tomorrow I might like them open lol! I love your new paint color! It's so pretty with the gray furniture.
ReplyDeleteHa ha Sherry!

ReplyDeleteI love your new wall color! Everything really stands out. I actually love the color of your ceiling. It looks great with your drapes. Sometimes all white rooms can look too sterile. The ceiling is a nice dramatic touch. Love your new mirror and that murano glass us gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh did I mention I like the glass doors open?
ReplyDeleteOh my!! I LOVE the ceiling left this color. Do you remember what color it is? Also where did you get your drapes? Everyday you inspire me!!
ReplyDeleteStacy, it's York Harbor by Benjamin Moore and the drapes are from the etsy shop La Fortune Linens. She is off for the summer, but maybe she will be back soon.
DeleteI love, love the new paint! White Dove is also a favorite of mine; it really freshens up a room! I like the doors closed, like others said! I like the color of the ceiling; save your neck for other projects!
ReplyDeleteThanks and I think I will save my neck!
DeleteI actually showed your post to the lady in the paint store today. We are starting a big painting project this week, trying to lighten everything up. White dove doesn't work in my LR/DR, unfortunately, due to the fabrics I have to work around. But, oh, do I love it in your DR! Then, I showed the picture of your ceiling to my hubby, and he liked it! I may try painting my ceiling the colors that my walls are now - Concorde Ivory, which looks similar to what you have on your ceiling. Gorgeous murano set; and doors closed is my preference!
ReplyDeleteI love it all especially the chandelier. Where did u find it? The Murano glassware is stunning. Doors look great either way so you decide or just switch about!!
ReplyDeleteI bought that on line years ago. Thanks
DeleteI agree about the doors, shut to see how pretty! I also LOVE the ceiling! It makes the room pop and I also love the bench in the bay!!!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so beautiful. I like the White Dove along with every other detail in the room.
ReplyDeleteThe White Dove looks beautiful in there ... love the new look for your fabulous hutch, too! And, your gorgeous Murano glass set stands out perfectly against the lighter wall color (glad you brought it out to be enjoyed)!
ReplyDeleteDoors closed for me. 😊 Sheila
ReplyDeleteYour taste is so lovely Kim...open or closed really doesn't matter much. You will always have a room that is warm, cozy, and stylish!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful refresh, Kim and your mirror is wonderful! I painted my kitchen cabinets white dove and I love the look. Hope you're having a great start to your week!
ReplyDeleteI love how it turned out. The wall color is perfect in there but looks different from my cabinets which are also White Dove. Maybe the ceiling is reflecting on it... I understand you not wanting to paint the ceiling though. I painted the ceiling in our small laundry room years ago and I think my neck still hurts! I love the new mirror. I think I prefer the doors closed but they are pretty open with the way they fill the space.
ReplyDeleteShelley
The room looks amazing. I love the hutch in black.
ReplyDeleteHmm... I think closed. Opened wouldn't work for me in real life. 😊 All about the lighter new wall color. But I also like the gold ceiling.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Gee
This is one of my very favorite dining rooms ever. Oh, how I wish we had a "real" dining room like you. I love how it looks with the doors closed, and the doors open. I just love your room, period! It looks amazing Kim, the mirror is just beautiful. Happy Fall, friend.
ReplyDeleteThe blue buffet is beautiful! So pretty Kim!!
ReplyDeleteKim, that new mirror is gorgeous! And I like the hutch doors closed because the things inside the hutch stay cleaner and when the doors are open, I think about people bumping into them and it looking like someone forgot to close them!
ReplyDeleteThe hutch looks really nice, but I can't remember what it looked like before. Guess I'll have to go back to some of your previous posts.
I love the updated color and that cabinet is gorgeous! I passed up a mirror similar to yours about a year ago - I also went back, and mine was gone! So, mine was not meant to be! Love yours over the buffet!!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. That mirror is just gorgeous. I love the hutch black. It's time for black furniture to come back around a little.
ReplyDeleteI like the doors closed. I hope you found a rug for that room. It needs something on the floor. Fingers crossed. I agree, the ceiling needs a fresher color. Just hire it out....better for the neck!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't touch the ceiling. Yellow is a beautiful color and warms the room. It's happy and welcoming, even if it's not the current Pantone color of the year. (Just wait; it soon will be). You have lovely taste.
ReplyDeleteYour home is ever evolving...you have great taste. Love the hutch and those gorgeous doors!
ReplyDeleteJane
your dining room is beautiful kim! i've admired it for a long time. i love the white dove, it is brighter. we have swiss coffee on our ceilings and on the trim on the outside of the house. now you got me thinking, hmmmm. the murano glass is beautiful! we did that same tour on our honeymoon, but alas came home empty handed (we didn't have much $$ after our wedding, lol.). i love the doors open & closed on your hutch can u leave it one & one like you have it in the 1st pic so u have the best of both worlds? xo- maryjo
ReplyDeleteps. love that mirror too!
I'm glad you got your pitcher and glasses out! Why have anything that can't be used and enjoyed? I have my grandmas crystal wine glasses that she saved her money for months to be able to buy. She never used them. I decided to use them and think of her every time I do. Two have been broken but I still say it's better they are being used and enjoyed!
ReplyDeleteI too love the ceiling. Can't believe how creamy the White Dove looks. What color white is your trim?
ReplyDeleteThe trim is Chantilly Lace. Thanks
