Yes, I'm calling this the kitchen reveal take two since I already revealed the transformation in here the first time when it was decorated for Christmas and then I shared more detailed before and afters in January, but I wasn't in love with my kitchen and I should have been. I knew something was throwing the look off for me and I realized what it was.....the backsplash. I was afraid to mention wanting the backsplash changed to Mr. Savvy, but after I did he was on board. He's a good man.
After he realized he could tile over the old tile, which was a lot less work, he had no problem with this makeover. He LOVES the new look and so do I!
The new tiles are lighter and brighter and not busy like the mosaic tiles were.
When it was time to put the kitchen back together I put away the silver pieces I was using and switched to ironstone like this pitcher holding my utensils.
After the addition of the antique French hutch in the dining room, the perfect French chairs in the breakfast room, and the new tile backsplash Mr. Savvy asked me if we were French yet?
He's so funny....so he thinks.
Two days later the hyacinths looked like this as the sun sets and shines in the kitchen and they smell so good.
Info:
We used natural stone tiles that were 49 cents each and a warm gray grout. We had to purchase a tile cutter and the total cost of this job was under $300.

I always loved your backsplash before but will admit this gives you a fresh and brighter background to work with. It's perfect. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stacey.
DeleteYou two are amazing. The kitchen looks even better. Gorgeous. Love the vertical line of copper molds. Might be copying that. It's also nice for me to see a white kitchen with white appliances. 13 years ago I chose white appliances because I thought stainless was a fad. If I have the kitchen painted white I am not going to get rid of working appliances. I just can't see myself doing that. Wasteful. :( And now I know it will be just fine!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cathy.
DeleteIt looks wonderful Kim. I love the new backsplash. When we move into our new home we are doing our own backsplash again. We have two different ideas and want time to check them out without the rush of the builders time line.
ReplyDeleteThanks Penny and that's a great idea to wait and choose what you really want.
DeleteLooks fantastic...love how the new tile coordinates with the existing granite too!....Mr. Savvy did a great job as always and he is indeed a funny guy...yes, Mr. Savvy, I think you can start wearing that French Beret in the house now!
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Guess I better go get him a beret.
DeleteLove it Kim! The other tile was pretty, but this one goes much better with the overall new look of your kitchen. Those pendant lights are gorgeous. Mr. Savvy better get used to those little tweaks, they never end! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cristina. I think he is already pretty well used to the tweaks around here. :)
DeleteBeautiful! Love that your kitchen is warm...not a bright white. The backsplash is perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the name of your granite?
Thanks and the granite is Giallo Ornamental.
DeleteLooks beautiful Kim! How did you guys accommodate for the one open ended edge and the double tile? The color is fabulous. I hope to work some more on our kitchen this upcoming weekend. Had to take some time off because the tile job did a number on my hands. Sadly I am not ablate complete projects as quickly any more.
ReplyDeleteI emailed you. Thanks, Pamela.
DeleteJust when I think I couldn't luv it anymore, something changes and I am in luv all over again.
ReplyDeleteLuv the rustic texture of the new tile. We are still going round and round between wooden counter tops or concrete. I want wood!! ☺ The last thing to do in the kitchen.
Thanks Gee. I hope you get your wood.
DeleteHello, could you provide the brand/source of the tiles and also the color/brand of paint on the lower cabinets?
ReplyDeleteThe tiles are from Floor & Decor and I don't have the specifics. We already took the box of leftovers back. They are a natural tile and 49 cents each. They were on display in the design tiles area and should be easy to find if your store carries them. They sell on line, too, but I have not looked there. The bottom cabinets are painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Chateau Gray.
DeleteHow does the chalk paint wear on those cabinets? Mine need new paint!
DeleteIt holds up well.
DeleteGreat! Thank you so much! Chalk paint it is then! The wall color in your kitchen is a creamy white. I didn't see the name of the color in this post. Benjamin Moore also? Also, love your bar stools. So cute!
DeleteWall color is French Canvas by Benjamin Moore.
DeleteKim, I love the new backsplash and I have to admit it does make a difference even though I liked your old one. Your hubby's question is too funny...he must be a good sport! Changing out from silver to white looks so fresh and springy,..I can smell the hyacinths!
ReplyDeleteYes, he is a good sport and he really does love the change.
DeleteI like!!
ReplyDeleteMe, too!
DeleteI really like the new tiles, they look so good with your granite! I noticed that right away! Your kitchen looks so clean and crisp and full of Spring smells!!! I have some hyacinths in the kitchen too and the smell is heavenly!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pinky. I didn't realize that hyacinths were so fragrant.
Deleteof course you are french Mr.Savvy! ha...looks so good Kim.
ReplyDeleteHa ha. Thanks, Laura.
DeleteAimer votre nouveau arrelage choix. ll semble tres beau avec votre comptoir. C'est tres francais ispire.
ReplyDeleteSince you are now French, you can read my comment in French. Ha!
Who knew my sister knew French!
DeleteJust beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandy.
DeleteI have to say, I thought the basketweave tile had a nicer contrast to the white above it and its uniqueness was a bonus.everywhere you look: subway tile.
ReplyDeleteYes, that is why I didn't choose regular subway tile. This is travertine with irregular edges and an old world look.
DeleteJust gorgeous. I love everything about it, from the big picture to the small details.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI have the small 4x4 tiles presently I'm wondering if I could use the subway tile over them??? I'm about ready for the counter top to be installed would sure love to update that as well... would appreciate any help you might send my way. I adore what you've done, it is such a timeless look. Lynne
ReplyDeleteFabulous Kim!!! The entire room just looks so fresh. I have to ask you about those counter stools...they are simply darling. Do they swivel and where in world did you find them? Beautiful kitchen...enjoy!
ReplyDeleteXO Barbara
It is gorgeous, love the tiles. Your kitchen always looks so wonderfully bright and sunny and so welcoming.
ReplyDeleteI love the old while subway tiles, but I have to say, yours are a step above! Really love the softness and texture.
ReplyDeleteI love it all! Our tastes are so similar...my backsplash possibly the same, countertop almost a match, and your flooring. My cabinets are an off white with warm glaze. Love your home.
ReplyDeleteI love the new tiles!!! What a difference they made! I thought the old ones looked good but now I understand what you saw. I love the light look. That is what I am trying to do with my house, lighten and brighten. I am trying to decide between travertine and marble for my bathroom. Yours looks like travertine, it looks great!
ReplyDeleteLove following your blog! You have such great taste! Can you please tell me about the bowl/dish that the hyacinths are sitting in? I have one very similar and can't find out anything about it! It was a Goodwill find. Would so appreciate anything you can tell me!
ReplyDeleteBobbie
Bobbie, thanks so much and I really don't remember where I bought that bowl. I know it isn't old, but a reproduction.
DeleteLove the backsplash. You can't go wrong with subway tiles. I just did the same thing to a very outdated kitchen so I know you're going to enjoy it. Tell Mr. Savvy that you're as close to French as you can get. Its beautiful and you're lucky that you and your husband are so talented! Great job.
ReplyDeleteShe who cooks must love the whole kitchen, it's a rule! And for .49* a tile, that is really easy to love.
ReplyDeleteDoes Mr. Savvy have a single brother with the same skill set? If so, send him to Florida, please! I love the backsplash and of course, the entire kitchen.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, no, I'm afraid he is the youngest and his older brother is married.
DeleteThanks!
I love the new tiles, Mr Savvy is a smart man for tiling over the old ones. Your kitchen is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI have stayed with you through the kitchen Reno. Absolutely love the base cabinets and the counter tops that are just my style too. The back splash does lighten things up and does not compete with the counter top. You did a great job and I enjoy following you to see your great ideas.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Kim. It's so clean and elegant. The backsplash really makes a big difference. Enjoy your lovely room.
ReplyDeleteOh My Goodness! LOVE the transformation! The tiles...on my dream list; the butcher block-with the cutest chunky legs; the lighting, the bar stools, the countertop....simply sublime. I know you'll enjoy spending time here!
ReplyDeleteKathy
So pretty! Love the backsplash and the white ironstone touches - the kitchen looks so open and bright! Just curious, did you find a new place for the marmalade jars? Also, where did you find the perfectly-sized white French drying rack for your coffee cups? I love it!
ReplyDeleteYes, the marmalade jars are in other spots and the rack is old from World Market.
DeleteLOVE the new look, Kim! I have a tumbled marble backsplash, and you've got me wondering whether it can be tiled over. I'd love to update it. I just came from reading a post at your sister's blog about her kitchen. I think you two have the prettiest kitchens in all of Georgia!
ReplyDeleteI agree the new backsplash has a more cohesive look. Mr. Savvy did an amazing job! I Have always loved your kitchen but this new look is gorgeous too! What is your wall color? Love that you paint the losers a darker color on some of your cabibets. Love the build out with the crown molding on the uppers too!
ReplyDeleteSandy, it's French Canvas by Benjamin Moore. All my colors are listed on my sidebar. Thanks
DeleteKim, it's just perfect!! The icing on the cake of a beautiful kitchen renovation... :-) Enjoy it!!
ReplyDeleteI love your new backsplash! It brightens up the whole space. Now you have a fresh background that sets off your area.
ReplyDeleteI loved each picture of your kitchen in this post. The new backsplash makes a great neutral background. And flowers in a kitchen always brighten the room.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim... Would you mind sharing where you purchased the hardware for your cabinets?
ReplyDeleteThey are from topknobs.com and part of the Normandy collection.
DeleteBeautiful! Where did you find the French bread boards?
ReplyDeleteI have found them over the years at flea markets, fairs, and antique malls.
DeleteLove it! We have the same granite in our new house, I am trying to decide what colors to do with it. What white are your uppers painted?
ReplyDeleteI think it is snowfall white by Benjamin Moore. Thanks
DeleteWould you please share the name of the Travertine tile that you used. I love it! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI don't know the name of it. We purchased the tiles at Floor and Decor. They are a tumbled marble subway tile.
DeleteOkay, thank you! I will see if I can find it. I have been looking for months for a kitchen backsplash that I like and I LOVE yours!
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me what color the green cabinets are? I'm presently designing my kitchen and I can't decide the best green for my historic home.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan
Susan, I used Annie Sloan Chalk paint in Chateau Gray which is a sage color and then applied her topcoat over them. If I ever repaint them I won't use the chalk paint next time. I like Benjamin Moore Advanced paint for cabinets.
DeleteLove the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteWe purchased the same tiles from floor and decor. What did you end up using on the open edge being that they don’t have a corresponding bull nose tile?
Also, did you use mastic or thinset for the tile application?
We purchased these tiles as well from floor and decor. What did you use to finish off the open edge of the tile being that they do not carry a corresponding bullnose?
ReplyDeleteAlso, did you use mastic or thinset?
The end pieces were already there from the tile that was there before. You can read more about it in the post "An Easy Fix" also in the top ten posts of 2017. Hubby used mastic.
DeleteYour kitchen is so light and bright. Just beautiful! I'm inspired to get to work putting up subway tiles in my kitchen. Thank you for sharing!

I love the backsplash so much Kim! And although I liked your kitchen before, it is truly beautiful now! and 49 cents??!?! How is that possible? They are gorgeous and I would have thought much more expensive!

xo
Your kitchen just keeps getting better and better. Love the new white cabs on top and the backsplash.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! I love the back splash, it's perfect with your style. I have an unrelated question....what color are those lower cabinets, green or gray? I'm searching for the right green for mine, not too green not too gray. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI used Chateau Gray chalk paint by Annie Sloan. It is the color they look a sage green. I am thinking about painting them again in the near future.
DeleteWhere did you purchase the very attractive pendant lights placed above the eating area?
ReplyDeleteHow did you make the face plates work and the outlets with the thickness of the tile? You wouldn’t want the outlets wires loose to where they rub and cause a fire!
