In this age of everything available digitally there are a lot of things that are becoming a dying breed. One of those is magazines. I love magazines. I love holding them and flipping the pages. I love to dog ear pages that I want to remember to come back to later for more inspiration or maybe a recipe. If we don't start purchasing these more they just cannot make it and then another publication dies off.
This large vintage flower basket is what I'm using now to hold my current mags, but I also have some in each guestroom and some old favorites stored in drawers.
The fabulous stylist Matthew Mead sent me a copy of his new magazine Upstyled Home by Country Sampler. This issue is full of outdoors inspiration. This is definitely the time of year we move outdoors to enjoy our porches, decks, yards, gardens, dining alfresco, etc and this issue is chock full of ideas and beautiful photos.
I could almost smell the sweet fragrance in this spread all about the many uses of lavender.
This makes me want to set up a picnic somewhere.
Lots of ideas for window boxes. If the front of our house wasn't so darn hot in the summer I would definitely add a couple.
There's even an article on holding an outdoor sale. I would do this if we weren't worried about cars ruining our yard in order to park.
Succulents are all the rage these days and I really would like to try my hand at one of these DIY succulent framed designs. We have a whole roll of chicken wire stored away.
My friend Amy of Maison Decor blog made the cover with her pretty French style backyard makeover that she and her husband did last year.
I love the black and white Amy used throughout her garden and look how cute her little shed is. I'm still waiting on mine to be built.
So who are my magazine lovers out there?
Matthew is offering one of my readers a copy of this magazine.

Don't forget to purchase your favorite magazines so they stay in publication.
Good morning Kim! I am much like yourself, where I have a huge basket that holds many of the more recent issues, and I confess to having stacks of magazines in the living room on my coffee table and end tables, and then issues tucked away in storage. Being a magazinaholic, it was a thrill to land the cover of this Outdoor issue of Upstyled Home. Thanks for featuring it on your blog!
ReplyDeleteI love magazines. I acually found a big fower pot hat holds mine! This magazine looks lovely! keshakeke(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI too am a magazineholic! I enjoy them, save some and share them with coworkers.
ReplyDeleteThank you and Mathew for this great giveaway.
I also love magazines. I read them a few times and then take them to the Y for others to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI rarely toss my magazines away. Guess I qualify as a hoarder in that respect! There is just something about the touch of the paper and seeing the vivid images in front of me, as opposed to a screen.
ReplyDeleteMe! I love magazines. Mathew is so creative! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI love magazines, save all of them usually . Would love this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI have always loved magazines, as well as books. Magazines have always been my go to for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteMy magazine collection is full of home, garden and cooking magazines. I get an absolute joy of reading a magazine and there are always several pages in each magazine that I will mark with a bookmark to try.
ReplyDeleteForgot my email address: masperle@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI still love magazines...just like reading a book instead of a kindle I have difficulty throwing away mags.
ReplyDeleteI am most certainly a magazine lover, it's my guilty pleasure! I seldom part with my favorites and when I must pare down I clip and save my favorite articles and pics!
ReplyDeleteI am also a lover of magazines and have them in baskets and trays all over the house. I do pass them along after a few months to nursing homes. Sometimes it is very hard to part with them.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, I love my magazines! I subscribe to eight and purchase a lot of the decorating issues including "Upscale Homes" so no need to enter me in the drawing. But like your's, they are well read and dog eared, but I hang on to them like prized possessions until forced to make room for the newer issues. Then and only then, do I cut out recipes or "inspirations" that I want to keep. It makes me feel better knowing that I and my collection are in good company!
ReplyDeleteI have loved magazines since I was a teenager! I subscribe and buy. I give stacks away. I could almost smell the lavender!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I still LUV turning the pages of a well put together magazine. And yes, they are in baskets in my sitting room and a few in my bedroom. I'd luv to take. Peek at this new one....
ReplyDeleteI agree...magazines and newspapers are a dying outlets and it is so sad. We all need to do what we can to support them. Thanks for the introduction to this new magazine. Love the photography and ideas!
ReplyDeleteI too am afraid that magazines are going to die out completely; therefore, I buy all i can! I feel the same way about cookbooks. Who wants to read a magazine or cookbook without being able to hold it in your hands and enjoy the feel of the paper etc. I have read Matthew's wonderful work ever since I discovered him in Country Living Magazine years ago! albertncharlotte@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love magazines. I have several subscriptions and even purchase special issues at the store.
ReplyDeleteI have always been a magazine junkie! Sadly I have seen some of my favorite publications go out of circulation over the past few years as younger readers turn more to electronic reading rather than hard copy reading.
ReplyDeleteHowever, everything runs in cycles such as the BIG comeback of vinyl records now much in demand by the younger age group. Thankfully, I still have my collection of vinyl just like my collection of magazine.
I love magazines...still have most of my Flea Market Style mags! Some I cannot let go.
ReplyDeleteMy neighbor and I swap good magazines!
Funny how some of the newer decor magazines are not my faves!
Don't worry. I keep all the magazine makers in business every month! I tried to get rid of some recently, but couldn't part with them even though some go all the way back to 1991. Thanks for featuring this issue. I passed on it recently due to being an outdoors issue, but you've made me realize it's still a gem. Going to buy an issue.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, Thank you for the great post! I felt that I was the only one out there hanging on to my precious magazines. I have purged this spring and was ready to recycle my first 10 years of Martha Stewart Living but have decided to hang on to them a "bit" longer just to flip through them one last time. Really love looking at the racks and buying a few here and there. Still the best!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, I get offers asking me to convert to digital magazines. No way! I love the look and feel of magazines. I buy them, subscribe to them and save them!
ReplyDeleteI rarely buy magazines.I once did, but they are so expensive. I feel like I was paying for advertising pages. They are filled with ads. There is very little contend. Just more stuff to take up space. I prefer digital.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim. Yours is the first blog I read every day. I love your beautiful home and that is what it is "a home". You and the mister have really done a great job in making it just so inviting. It makes me want to come in, kick my shoes off and read a magazine. Thanks for all the opportunities you offer us, your faithful fans.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI'm like you. I like reading lots of things online but there is still something about a hard-copy magazine with beautiful photos that tugs at my heartstrings. I keep copies of my favorites in our guest rooms and have a basket full of older issues that I just cannot part with yet.
It's always such a thrill to open the mailbox and find the most recent issue of my favorite magazine. Sadly, so many have shrunk in size and many others have disappeared completely. Have no fear, I'm doing my best to keep them going! I also dog ear the pages for future reference and keep them far longer than I should. Magazines are a simple pleasure in our hectic lives and hopefully will continue to be for many years to come.
ReplyDeleteI'm a magazine lover too...it's a disease I believe! This new magazine sounds fantastic! Thanks for the opportunity! ;)
ReplyDeleteI've been reading decorating magazines since I was in college...I'm 60! I've seen Colonial Home go and Country Living become half of what it once was! I love to hold them in my old hands and read them cover to cover!
ReplyDeleteI wait expectantly each month for my favorite magazines to arrive. Sometimes I choose which magazine to look through first by the cover alone! The photos are like pieces of art and I marvel at those who gather each detail so perfectly and precisely.
ReplyDeleteI've been asked if I'd like to receive my magazines electronically. Banish the thought. I want to feel the cool, smooth paper of each magazine and read lazily as many times as I want.
I only subscribe to Country Sampler & Country Living. If there is an interesting magazine on the rack, then I will pick up a copy. And forget the digital subscriptions, I want to be able to fold over the page, or write "save" on the outside. And I love those pages that you just stare at because they have some wonderful home pictures!!
ReplyDeleteI read quite a few blogs but I still buy magazines, although, I don't have that one. Yet. :-) Lmrhudy(at)aol(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI don't think the magazines will go out of business as long as you and I are around!!! I looked for Mathew's magazine a few days ago and couldn't find it. Would love to win a copy because, you know, I'm an outdoor girl!
ReplyDeleteI love magazines. This magazine has great ideas. Would love to win this magazine. bevebersole@comcast.net
ReplyDeleteI have looked for this and can't find it so would love to win a copy! Heard about it first at Shirleys. It looks terrific. My email is: szpinky@aol.com Hope your foot is healing!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE magazines so!!! I sometimes feel as like I am cooking in a kitchen or sitting in a garden drinking tea. I save so may of my favorites:)
ReplyDeleteI love magazines, but they've pretty much gotten too expensive for my budget.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I have old mags. The newer issue I bought digitally. I will be moving soon & having to pay for this move. I haven't decided if the old mags are worth the cost.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to holding a real magazine, not digital, in your hands. That's my go to before bed. TV goes off two hours before bed. Out come my magazines that I love to read in bed. I only read real, turn the page, books also. Nothing digital for this avid reader! Even on vacations I haul my books along or buy one on the way! Nothing like the real thing Baby!
ReplyDeleteI have Christmas magazines that I have kept fir years and I get them out for the holidays. Ann
ReplyDeleteann@etex.net
Even with all the avaiability with electric gadgets, I stll cling to the old fashion flipping through tge pages of magazines to bring a smile to my face :) countrycollector505@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteAnother magazine lover here. Thanks for the chance to win a subscription to this lovely magazine.
ReplyDeleteI am a magazine-aholic! I, too, have been fearing the same sad outcome for magazines. I have my faves stashed in pretty baskets throughout my home!!
ReplyDeleteI keep telling my hubby I am not the only woman who finds it almost heartbreaking to throw aways any of my favorite magazines! They really are everywhere in our home. I also have a tote bag in our vehicle where I carry a few current issues for those boring times I must wait somewhere!
ReplyDeleteLove my magazines. Nothing like sitting with a cup tea and enjoying them in a quiet house.
ReplyDeleteI don't subscribe to or buy as many as I used to. I used to have a couple of subscripts on my Nook, but dropped those. I do enjoy the "speciality" editions, although many times I think the price ($10-$12) is ridiculous. I think blogs and pinterest have taken the place of magazines as they used to be. I have a basket in the bedroom with current mags/books and have a few stored in a chest. Otherwise, I do not like keeping them laying around the house. I also donate old ones from time to time.
ReplyDeleteI love magazines and keep back issues forever. Any Quilting, Country Sampler and Flea Market Gardens are my favorites. Just spent hours outside. It is 82 degrees here in Colorado. Hope your foot is healing well.
ReplyDeleteIt's a most wonderful magazine!
ReplyDeleteI used to love magazines, but they have become more full of adds than content. So alas, I have let all my subscriptions lapse. I would enjoy seeing a copy of this mag, as I have never heard of it or seen it on the news stands.
ReplyDeleteI love magazines and could not agree with you more if we stop purchasing they will disappear. I actually was spending part of my day today revisiting some of my favs. I made copies of some recipes and a few color copies of my fav design ideas and then I will be passing many on to family and friends. Oh I still have quite the stash, but it was time to share.
ReplyDeleteI am excited to see this new magazine. If I don't win it certainly will be on my list of errands at the local Barnes and Noble.
Hi, Kim,
ReplyDeleteAdd my name to the list of magazine lovers. I have a complete collection of the original Victoria magazine sitting on a bookcase in one of the guest bedrooms. I have several copies of British Country Living in a large footlocker size basket in the living room, but have been going through them to give away all but my very favorite issues. I just renewed my subscription to British Country Living through Hearst Magazines, and it was pricey since the magazine ships from England.
Add my name also to the list of people who would enjoy winning a copy of this new magazine. botanicbleu1@gmail.com
Judith
Magazines have gotten more affordable so I have twice as many...just love picking them up and turning the pages for a dream, new idea, or something challenging or beautiful...they get to be friends. Glad Country Sampler has this new one...can't wait to see it. I could smell that lavender too!! Got my fingers crossed for another mailbox surprise. THANK YOU! norma
ReplyDeleteI read my first decorating magazine in 1970 and have been hooked ever since.
ReplyDeleteI cull my mag stash every year -just took 1 year of House Beautiful and MS Living to work for the lobby
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to say I see I am not the only magazine lover out there!! I can't wait for each months new magazine edition, and I also love the British versions of some of the magazines. I have baskets and buckets full of them! It saddens me when magazines disappear. Kept reading these amazing books!!
ReplyDeleteLibraries love them too!
ReplyDeleteI keep mine forever !favorite ones are kept in my wire chicken basket.
ReplyDeleteI have hundreds of magazines going back as far as the 1990s. A favorite pastime is to leaf through a back issue to see what was "in" then that still looks fresh today. Most recently I skimmed through the June 2001 issue of Country Home, and wouldn't you know, there was a great piece by Matthew Mead on re-purposing an old work bench as a kitchen island, proving that what's good, stays good and stands the test of time! theresa@potter.net
ReplyDeleteAfter reading ALL those comments, I feel much better about my habit - I too love and treasure my magazines! Phew!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you...
I love magazines too. They are so inspiring in so many ways. I love to pack one in my lunch bag, flip through one when indulging in a coffee by myself. .. a rare treat.. and I love the smell of the paper!
ReplyDeleteFinally, I'm in the company of like-minded magazine lovers! My affinity for magazines goes all the way back to my preteens. I used my babysitting money to buy them. Since I save most of my magazines, as I read them and come across an advertisement that doesn't "speak" to me; I carefully rip it out. Problem solved. jdstewart18@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great magazine...Matthew Mead is very creative! Fun giveaway...thank you for hosting!
ReplyDeleteI am exactly like you. I love magazines of any style. I read books on kindle but magazines just don't come to life. I buy and copy so many decorating magazines from so many different publications. I've even started my youngest readers my grandchildren on highlights so they have their own magazines. Love your creativity with your blog. Connie My email Conanddon@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI continue to buy magazines for that very reason..I love to sit and enjoy a magazine..not on a computer device. Thanks for the giveaway
ReplyDeleteDeebriese@yahoo.com
The printed word experience simply can't be reproduced digitally - the rustling of turning pages, the smell of ink, those glossy pages! Long live books and magazines!!
ReplyDeleteI used to save every magazine I received. I still have quite a few. But I was probably becoming a magazine hoarder, so a couple years ago, we got rid of probably 300 or so, and I still have my favorites. I'd like to received a copy of the magazine you are giving away. Thanks for the opportunity!!
ReplyDeleteI still look forward to my magazines, CL, SL and Cottage Living, I save special ones, dog ear pages for ideas, and share with my daughter in law, or pass onto the library after I am done. I, too, liked English Country Living and English Gardening....Kindles just are not the same!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love magazines. I would love a cipy. dhdearmon@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love magazines. I still subscribe to several and pick up a couple at the store.
ReplyDeleteLove magazines too. Hate to tell how many I have stacked in a closet! Adoannie97@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteBeautiful magazine. I own a few of his magazines/books. I love them!
ReplyDeleteI love magazines and hope they never go out of publish. Would love to get a copy of this new one.
ReplyDeleteI have been slowing culling my stash of old magazines. I hope they don't stop publishing them because they are perfect for trips. I look at Pinterest and blogs for most of my inspiration these days.
ReplyDeleteI am a true magazine lover. My favorite ones are saved for a while. Others I might pull out something I want to keep and donate the magazine to our local oncology office to share. I would love to try this new (to me) magazine.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely a magazine lover. I have a complete set of Mary Englebreit's Home Companion. I also have a stash of quite a few others as well. I recently thinned out my collection and am certainly ready to add a new magazine to the mix.
ReplyDeleteThis magazine looks amazing! I have a collection of my favorite issues of various magazines.
ReplyDeleteLove magazines! I would have less joy in my life without them. They are as much a part of my decor as flowers and candles!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis magazine looks great! I still like to hold magazines and go through them over and over.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win.
