I just had to go back and get it! Almost anyone who goes antique hunting will tell you if you love it then buy it and you will find a place for it. I'm so glad I went back for this vintage French child's chair and I'm pretty sure I know where it will be used. Since this shop was out of state it was better for me to go ahead and buy this or it would have driven me nuts thinking about it. You can see the post about the shop here.
When I posted a photo on Instagram of the chair and I said I didn't purchase it and an antiques expert like Loi of Tone On Tone tells me to go back and get it and Lidy of French Garden House, who also sells antiques, tells me those are hard to find I was already back at the shop and paying for it.
The details of this petite chair are fabulous from the little hand carved flowers to the brass tacks.
And y'all I think the color of this super soft velvet upholstery is the icing on the cake.
It was filthy when I brought it home, but a little Woolite upholstery cleaner and she's almost like new.
There are these ugly spots on the other side of the cushion so we'll just keep that side down.
I really wonder if all the fabric is original. It is stained and faded.
Turn it upside down and there is some dirty webbing that is hand sewn.
Then as I was studying the chair I realized it the legs are attached with pegs. This is the first time I have seen this.
I hope to share this in it's new space in a few weeks.
Here's to an awesome week!
Here's to an awesome week!
So pretty! Glad you went back for it.
ReplyDeleteI recently passed up two hand colored prints that haunted me for days. I went back and one had sold but I was thankful that one was still there. I couldn't pay for it fast enough. So glad you got your chair, it's beautiful. I really need to learn to buy things when they really speak to me.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Great score!!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful Kim!
ReplyDeleteTest on the stained side of the cushion first, but ammonia might clean that up nicely. Just do the work outdoors so you don't breathe the fumes.
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cinsy
I loved this chair when you posted on IG. I think you will move it quite often and the possibilities for vignettes are endless!
ReplyDeleteIt's an oldie, but a cutie!!
ReplyDeleteGlad it was there when you went back....It seems when I go back...the thing is never there. Lessons learned....

If you can't stop thinking about it, then you know! It's lovely, enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteQuite a fancy little chair! Do you have a steamer? You could steam the cushion and it would probably fluff out those wrinkles a bit. I can see you using this with the twin beds. Cute.
ReplyDeleteWrinkles? It is down filled and that's just the way the cushion does.
DeleteThat certainly wasn't meant as an insult!! I have a couple of down cushions myself. It's wrinkling a bit between the seams (where the rows of binding/piping are) kind of like something's been sat on the seat (heavy). Just a thought!
DeleteI didn't take it as an insult. I just had never noticed wrinkles and then saw what you were talking about. It's all good.
DeleteWhew! LOL
DeleteI knew when I first saw this on your post (missed the IG) that it was going to be yours! I could not have resisted it either!!! It is a fabulous piece!...I have a feeling I know where it will land!!
ReplyDeleteThat chair is amazing. I think it will be fabulous in the new bathroom.
ReplyDeleteWow! She's a beautiful little chair. So glad you went back to get her.
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling that you might go back and get that chair, LOL. The color of the velvet is so perfect!
ReplyDeleteOmgosh, now that is true treasure, so glad you went back, this would have haunted you if had not gone back. Great purchase!!
ReplyDeleteThe chair is beautiful! I am glad you went back for it! It is so you!!!
ReplyDeleteI would have gone back for this one, too. What a gem! I've learned that if I fall in love with something immediately, I will beat myself up (mentally) for not getting it. Smart move, going back for this beauty! :-)
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful chair and the fabric is so luxe! I agree with Marty, that would look great in your new master bathroom.
I was in a antiques store today and saw a set of vintage brass deers that I admired and would work in my decor during the holidays. I put them down and walked away and then thought about it for a few minutes and went back around and got them. I knew if I waited they would be gone and I would kick myself! So glad you went back and got that chair too.
What a great chair. I love the detail and cute flowers carved in the chair. So cute. I know you will have it looking so sweet.

It's a beauty!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Awesome find Kim! I'm a sucker for old chairs so I would have been drawn to it too.
ReplyDeleteOh good! You are lucky it was still there and sold! Many times that has happened to me! Beautiful chair!
ReplyDeleteI always tell myself, buy it now, return it later if necessary. Not sure if that works in antique shops ...
ReplyDeleteIt's normally a no return policy at antique shops and that's why it's hard to decide whether to buy or not to buy.
DeleteI knew when you said you went back for something that it had to be the chair. It was love at first sight for me. Happy for you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful chair! You were right to go back to get it. The wood peg means all the structure is wood probably, which is considered a good thing in France. In my old house, for example, all the roof structure is made with wood beams and wood pegs... just a lot bigger than the ones on the chair!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome chair! So glad you went back for it.
