Y'all I was hoping this bathroom renovation wouldn't take this long, but we are now going into week seven. I have been so over the dust and grit all over that pink paper we put down on the floors. So after the tile guys left yesterday I pulled it all up.....every stinkin bit of it! Then I vacuumed, dusted, and mopped and it was like I could suddenly breathe again. Yes, more dust and mess is yet to come, but not as much as there has been. We need to put down fresh paper anyway when the next round starts. The tile guys were here all week and they tiled the shower and the floor. They will come back to do the wall over the vanity once that is installed with the counter top. We haven't even talked to a stone place yet for the counter. We will get on that next week. We also need the shower glass guy to come back for the final measurements. The carpenters are bringing the vanity base tomorrow and I guess they will start doing the rest of the trim work around the tub, doors and window soon. We don't even know if the custom window is ready yet. Anyway as this project drags on here is how the progress went last week.
On Monday the tile guys did the prep work. They installed the Durock and formed the shower floor. They finished around 3:30 since this had to dry.
The shower floor having to be formed is the main reason Mr. Savvy didn't take on the tile job himself. Lordy, it would have taken him weeks to do this. I'm so glad he realized it was too big of a job for him.
On Tuesday this much tile was installed. The red is waterproofing they brushed on first.
Talk about a strong odor.
Wednesday all the subway tile was finished.
Thursday they didn't show up until 2:30, but stayed until they had the mosaic tile done on the wall, niche and shower floor.
Friday the floor started going down. They worked from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
And Saturday it all got grouted. I am so thrilled with how the floor turned out. My hardest decision was the grout color for the shower and the floor, but they are both perfect. The grout is still wet here and will dry a bit lighter even though I do love it dark.
I chose the color biscuit by Mapei grout for the shower tiles and Mocha for the floor.
I hope I will have much better photos using the real camera instead of the phone for the reveal.
Love the shower floor with the biscuit colored grout. I didn't want white and this color gives just the right contrast between all the tile colors.
Y'all I am over the moon with how the bathroom is coming together. I wasn't sure I could pull this off myself with my choices, but so far so good!

Kitchens and baths ALWAYS seem to take longer than expected. Kim it is already gorgeous!! I love your choice of tiles and grout colors.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteYou made great choices. Everything is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marty!
DeleteSo beautiful Kim. I hear you on the dust. I spent yesterday cleaning that fine dust off of the walls, doors, etc. throughout the new house after having the floors done. They are doing the dry wall in the basement this week so I hope they keep a lot of the dust down there. It is looking so pretty. Soon you will have your beautiful bathroom.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Kris
Oh, Kris the dust is enough to drive you nuts! Looking forward to seeing your new home.
DeleteIt is looking great Kim! Love your tile choices.
ReplyDeleteThanks Penny!
DeleteRenos take a lot of time. I've been doing it steady now for almost 4 years, the most current one emptying out the full house for new flooring. Now, in the process of putting it all back together, like you the dust has been overwhelming. The bath is looking fabulous. fondly ~ lynne ~
ReplyDeleteOh, I remember when we had the hardwoods put in. We have been doing updates for years and I'm not sure they ever stop.
DeleteI love your choices, Kim. Hang in there!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm hanging. It's all I can do. thanks!
DeleteLooks wonderful!...Love the accent of the floor tile on the wall....I am sure the next phase will go quickly!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping things move along, but there is still a lot to have done and do.
DeleteYour bathroom is going to be absolutely gorgeous! I love all of the choices you made!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jane!
DeleteHang in there, girl!! Love all your choices so far!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLove the shower floor! You are so good with all you do I had no doubts it would be beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteAwe, thanks!
DeleteI love everything!! Especially the floor. We are getting ready to redo or bath and I picked marble tiles. You make me want to look again. We have yet to sign on the dotted line๐
ReplyDeleteI love the look of marble, but it just wasn't the look I was going for. It's hard making these decisions and I'm sure you will choose what's right for you. Just go with your gut.
DeleteThanks Kim, good advice!
Deleteabsolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOh, it looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you Magali!
DeleteGreat choices; I don't think I would have ever been able to make final decisions...my brain would have exploded instead.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic so far - before you know it, it will be complete and ready for you to fully enjoy!
So far, so good, Kim! I bet you will be glad when all is said and done. I used to go in a vacuum that rosin paper every day when the left...lol....and then would replace it about half-way through when it got too bad to be able to clean it good enough to make me happy.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great week and they get a lot accomplished this week. xo Diana
STUNNING. Really pretty, but I suspect you'll never blog again. You'll be too shriveled from all those long showers! ๐
ReplyDeleteHa Ha!
DeleteIt's beautiful, Kim! It's all going to look stunning!!

ReplyDeleteIT looks fabulous! I am sure it will all be with it in the end.
