I changed up the farmhouse style guest bedroom, of course, for winter. While doing some Christmas shopping last month I came across a good sale for bedding at Pottery Barn and I knew the dark gray ticking stripes would be perfect for this room especially since I love me some ticking. I already had the gray quilt and the buffalo checked drapes and since I love mixing patterns the ticking would be another great addition. The only thing I wasn't sure of is what accent color did I want to add to the mix. I didn't want just gray and white. I love neutrals, but I still have to have some color, too so I add that with the accessories.
I went to HomeGoods thinking I was going to look for some soft yellow pillows to go with the gray. That would add a nice pop of color, but all the store had was lemon yellow which was way too bold for me so I kept looking. Then I found two really pretty blush pillows with some black accents and a pretty soft pink throw, but I still wasn't feeling it so I put them back. I almost left empty handed until I saw the blue and gray modern style pillow. Mixing in a bit of modern keeps the look fresh.
With the pillow in hand I went back to the throws and found this big soft blue throw that would add the bold color and texture I was looking for to add that cozy element.
The corduroy charcoal colored euro shams are from Amazon and were extremely cheap. I added the linen long ruffled shams and then the ticking shams that match the duvet cover. I don't always buy the matching shams and duvet covers, but these were an extremely good deal and I knew I could use them with this bedding ensemble and more ideas I put together down the road.
I added my blue enamelware French pitcher filled with lavender to the nightstand to add more blue.
A folded quilt for an extra layer, if needed, adds more color.
Another pattern and blue color with the vintage French ticking pillow.
And in my usual photo shoot fashion I swapped out the lampshades after noticing that the ticking ones were a bit small. If you scroll up to the photo above this one you will notice that you can see the prongs that the harp connect to and you really shouldn't see those. So I swapped with these white shades that fit better, but still could be a bit wider for a perfect look. I bought some Pottery Barn shades at the outlet, but they are a bit too cream colored for this gray and white bedroom at the moment.
Hope those ideas and tips help with your own decor.
Love the new look.
ReplyDeleteI love the new look for your guest room. It's so comfortable and welcoming! Love the new bedding!
ReplyDeleteThe stripes on the barrel shades are so perfect with the ticking, but the white ones also look good.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Kim. I often do that with lamp shades, too, and I think you notice it in pictures sometimes better than when you are just eyeballing it. Love the more modern pillow-the colors are perfect.
ReplyDeleteI have a trunk like the one at the end of the bed and am anxious to get it hauled out when we move...and hope I can use it as a decorative accent. Right now it is just used for storage.
Have a great week, Kim- xoDiana
Perfect, smerfect LOL! I like the striped shades in the room. Do you hate vacuuming under that dust ruffle??
ReplyDeleteAs I always say—those are some lucky guests who get to stay in your beautiful room!! I love the pattern mixes you come up with!!
ReplyDeleteyou always seem to make the most beautiful bedding come together. love this room.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a talent for mixing fabrics. Love this combo. This room is perfect for winter! Have a great week, Kim!

Kim, you have the magic touch with layering bedding and mixing patterns! I love all of your bedrooms as you make seasonal changes!
ReplyDeleteLove the ticking stripe and the blues you added to the mix are perfect! Just love this room.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! What an inviting guestroom. Nothing says comfort like blue accents in a bedroom... and the gray and white are a perfect compliment to the space.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that all of your guests are going to find it hard to leave. (which I guess could be a good and bad thing, ha)
Your shopping venture was a huge success!
Thank you for sharing this comfy room.
Have a wonderful Monday
I've liked the many ways you've had your guest room but really like how you added that blue/gray pillow (although I foresee it being changed out in either yellow or blush). =) I also have a weakness for ticking fabric...fabric in general! Look forward to your next change around your lovely home.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the length on your bedskirt? It drapes on the floor just perfectly.
ReplyDeleteTrish, I believe it's an 18 inch. It depends on your bed height off the floor and how long you want it. I ordered it from an etsy shop. Most of those shops offer different lengths.
DeleteMy question as well -- thanks! I have an old iron and brass bed and would love to find a similar skirt.... :)
DeleteThe room looks lovely. It looks so serene yet cozy. I envy your ability to buy at Pottery Barn as here in Australia it is a nightmare. It is hard to get stock in the stores so have to buy online. Delivery is so slow and returns cannot be taken back to the store as is the Australian way, they have to go back to the warehouse via PB courier. I have been waiting a month for my return to be collected. Such lovely merchandise but the worst customer service in Australia. We waited years for PB to arrive in Australia however it has been so disappointing and we can no longer buy from the US online.
ReplyDeleteI love the new look. So cozy for winter. The buffalo checks and the ticking look great together. Love the pops of blue for a nice addition. You always think of everything!
ReplyDeleteOh my Kim love the color scheme you have done a beautiful job
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find the ticking duvet and shams? Thanks!
ReplyDeletePottery Barn.
DeleteIt looks fabulous. Finding the perfect shade of a colour that is in one's mind always seems to be difficult, but I think your substitute of the blue works perfectly. I have recently fallen in love with old fashioned pink, but finding cushions that are plain and in this colour proved to be a nightmare so I had to buy the fabric instead!
ReplyDeleteI, too love the ticking and the buffalo checks, think of getting our bedroom new duvet and pillow covers when we repaint.
ReplyDeleteKim, your bedrooms always look so pretty. Your guest room always looks like a completely different room with just the changing of some color and different art work. May I ask where you got those beautiful slips with the longer flouncy ends. Gorgeous..Thanks and Happy Tuesday..Judy
ReplyDeleteThanks, Judy and I buy those on Etsy. Just search linen bedding and you should finds tons of them at different price points.
DeleteI love this room you've put together, perfectly cozy!
ReplyDeleteKim I always love seeing what you do with this space. No matter what it looks comfy and inviting. I bet no guest wants to ever leave.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteJust lovely! Would you please send the Amazon link to the corduroy euro shams?
ReplyDeleteHere is what to look for. I don't have amazon links.

Just found your blog - and just love it. It works with Midwest decorating so well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol and welcome!
DeleteLove all the cow prints you use in this room. Where have you gotten them? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe one over the bed is from Ballard's. The framed prints are several years old. Thanks
DeleteI love this room and all the different ways you style it, but these lamps are my favorite! Do you have a source for them? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, those are from Pottery Barn and I used shades I had on hand. These come in two sizes and these are the small ones. Thanks
DeleteKim, this is Lovely! You have beautiful style! I have been looking for carpeting that is neutral but has a bit of warmth for all my bedrooms. We built a reproduction salt box home and after 20 years and 3 little boys now grown to young men, i’m ready to redesign. Do you happen to remember the brand/ style carpeting you have in that room. It’s just perfect!
ReplyDeleteMartha, the carpet is by Mohawk and you can probably find it on their website at mohawkcarpet.com. The style name keeps changing and the colors change. I don't know why they do that. You would find it under patterned carpet. Thank you!
DeleteI love the new look of the Armoire you painted. I have looked and looked back to find the details of the paint but alas can not find . Is there a link some where?
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't do a tutorial. I just grab paints and start painting. It's been so long I'm not sure what colors I used.
DeleteCan you tell me where you got your curtains?
ReplyDeletePottery Barn last year.
