Spring is a time of renewal outside and that means a time to refresh inside. Of course I refresh things often 😉. This spring I have refreshed the great room by changing the accessories and incorporating soft blues and greens. When I return home after visiting my mom in rehab this lighter look is very calming.
Great Room Refresh Using Blues, Greens and Ironstone
A few weeks ago I shared the spring mantel here and then I finally updated the rest of the room.
The shelves had been styled the same for quite some time so I thought what could I do differently? So I cleared the shelves and started adding some of my ironstone collection. Then I added in some books and greenery. The blue books with the greenery continue the blue and green look.
Oh, and flowers. There must be flowers. I tucked these in this vintage enamelware pitcher and placed it on a wooden bowl turned upside down.
I tucked a little plant in the ironstone gravy boat.
I removed all the stacks of books that were on the coffee table before and created this vignette with a basket.
When I first started blogging eight years ago I decorated with a lot of cloches and then that phase went away. Now, I'm seeing cloches returning in home decor again and I picked up this one at Pottery Barn. I filled it with a couple of silver trophies, feathers, an old fern print.
The only other new items are three new pillow covers in soft blues and greens. I combined them with the textured tan colored pillows I had on hand.
Birds and flowers always say spring.
I pulled out this pillow cover that I used last year, too and placed it on the soft green chair.
This blue and ivory pillow has been used in the guest bedrooms and now it resides on the leather chair. Well, until you know who sits in his chair.
I am keeping this ivy plant here since it is doing so well.
More blue and white pillows and greenery on this side.
Spring has certainly sprung around here. The temps have warmed up nicely and the pollen is in full force.
Have a fabulous week!
See last spring's great room here.

I love the blue/green combo, I find it very calm and refreshing. Nice job as always.
ReplyDeleteBlue and green speaks of spring. I love the new pillow covers and the refresh on the coffee table is just so pretty with the basket and the cloche! The book shelves also say spring has arrived. Have a wonderful week, Kim!
ReplyDeleteI'm like you and have not used any of my cloches in a long time. I may pull one out! Hmmm I would have never thought of ironstone in the great room. I'll have to agree with Mr. Savvy on the pillow in his chair; I don't put one in hubby's leather chair either; but I'm not one who has a pillow on every seat either LOL!
ReplyDeleteHope your mom has a better week and is soon home.
Love this fresh look!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely and spring-like.
ReplyDeleteIn the second to the last photo, are the flowers, leaves, and fern real or silk? If silk, they are all very good. Do you remember where they were purchased? It's always a challenge to find high quality faux plants that do not cost $50 a stem. I'm willing to pay more than chain store prices, but I do have my $$$ limits! Thanks.
The greenery and flowers in the black jar are from Magnolia Market and I don't think they sell the white flowers anymore. They do carry the leaf branch. The fern is also faux and very old.

ReplyDeleteYes, the room is just lovely and you've inspired me to give my family room a refresh!
ReplyDeleteKim, you’re room is truly refreshed and calming! I love how you added a table behind your couch. We’ve rearranged our furniture and our couch is now in front of our window wall. I’ll be looking for a thin sofa table to put behind ours so we can add lighting. Thank you for the inspiration! Sometimes all you need to see an idea in a photo!
ReplyDeleteI am in the process of deconstructing all the Easter decor and can't wait to do a Spring refresh! I LOVE the blues and greens in here! You are right, very calming!
