Lakehaven Cottage Tour

7.26.2019

I have another fabulous home tour for you today. If you aren't on instagram you are really missing lots of wonderful inspiration. I found Sheila @lakehavencottage when I started following the hashtag #traditionalhome. I didn't even realize you could follow hashtags and now I see a lot of what I'm wanting to see by following certain hashtags. I was scrolling one day and a pretty living room dressed in blue and white popped up and I had to check it out. That was the beginning of connecting with Sheila and her gorgeous home in Maine. Sheila has filled her traditional home with lots of blue and white and antiques.

Enjoy Sheila's Lakehaven cottage tour and be sure to read the information Sheila wrote about the home at the end of the post.

Isn't this entrance and exterior pretty? I can see why it caught their eye when house hunting.

The property dates back to 1828.

I would have definitely bought the place for this fabulous view and look at sweet Elsa.

Let's go inside. Love the tiled floor in the foyer. It reminds me of a home my parents built for us on St. Simons Island, Ga. where I went to first, second and third grade before we moved again.

Beautiful blue and white pieces and there's their sweet pup Elsa again. I bet I know who's boss.

This is the barn room that I love. Looks like such a cozy room to hang out in.

I love the use of this pine dresser in the bathroom.

And my favorite picture of all is Lakehaven cottage covered in snow.

Elsa says please pop over for a visit.

After searching for several years in Maine for a small cottage on the water we found Lakehaven. It was love at first sight for us both. Lakehaven is perched high above a  lake on a granite outcrop surrounded by mature trees. It has a circular drive that captures the granite formation in the center island.

The property was built in 1828 in the Greek Rival style, as a Captains house but somewhere in its history it was converted to a farmhouse.

The barn, which is connected to the house and overlooks the lake has been converted into three levels. A family room with a bedroom and bathroom above and a garage on the lower level.

The main part of the house has the same floor plan and most of the original doors, wood flooring and windows. The previous owners did considerable renovation on the property, keeping many of the original features. However, their taste in decor was rather ornate, and much of our work has been toning it down to be more in keeping with an antique cottage farmhouse.

This week we are celebrating our third year at Lakehaven Cottage.

Now it's time for y'all to hop over to instagram and follow Sheila @lakehavencottage!

  1. What a beautiful home! I loved the dog. Our Lab, Sadie, passed away a few months ago and it reminded me how she loved to be in every picture. Lakehaven Cottage is truly spectacular.

  2. What a beautiful home and I love Elsa! My friend also has a yellow lab named, Elsa! Dogs really do make a home extra cozy...although this home is stunning all on its own. Great feature!
