An Antique Table for the Sun Room

11.15.2019

While on our trip, you know, I shopped. I love visiting The Plantation Shop on Amelia Island and have shopped there for years when in that area. We used to have two stores here in the Atlanta area, but they closed several years ago. One was very close to where I live which was not a good thing.

After Mr. Savvy attended his conference classes we hopped in the car and went to The Plantation Shop and then over to Fernandina Beach to browse the shops over there. We even played a game of putt putt.

The antique trunk I had at the end of the sofa was temporary until I found something that was just right and I lucked up on a circa 1890 English gateleg table at the shop. They had several, but I had to have a petite size one to fit the space.

Isn't it a beauty? I'm so glad it fits so perfectly!

I wasn't sure how to style the top and then I just started grabbing things from around the house except for the brass candlesticks that I bought in an antique mall in Savannah. I only had two candles so I'm expecting some new ones to come in from Amazon.

I didn't like the rattan bench I had here with the gateleg table so I snagged this chair from the great room which caused a snowball effect to replace that chair. Chairs were moving from one room to another as Mr. Savvy rolled his eyes.

It has been unusually cold here so it only made sense to add a basket of cozy throws to grab and believe me I have been wrapping up in them.

For now blue still resides in here, but change is coming.

I'm loving the change and now this corner feels cozy.

More of the Southern Living Idea House coming soon.

Hope y'all have a great weekend and stay warm!

  1. Love your new table! It does make the corner cozy, and I love the blue. I would beg you not to change it but I know whatever you fo in there will look fabulous! I remember The Plantation Shop that was near me, across town from your area. It was a wonderful place and I miss it!

    1. Thanks and the blue doesn't work for Christmas plus I need calmer. The blue will probably come back next spring or summer.

  2. Wow - your new table is perfect for that corner. We are getting ready to enclose our back porch to make it a sun room. The rug you are showing is what I have in mind. Would you please share info about source, durability, etc.? Love your blog and it continues to inspire my decorating ides. Thank you.

    1. The rug is by Annie Selke and it's a Dash & Albert rug. It is made of cotton and has held up well. I have many of her cotton rugs. The small ones are washable. Thanks

  4. I love your table with barley twist legs. I have one similar in my dining room. That chair looks good in there beside table. Don't you just love it when you find something that works perfect for a room. I know I sure do....But I love the thrill of the hunt.

  5. I love both of your new additions to the room...well, one new addition and a transplant. Both look great. I can't wait to see what you have in mind for a color change in there. Don't get me wrong...the blue is lovely, but right now, ever other blog and design magazine is featuring BLUE rooms. I really look forward to other color selections. Your rooms always turn out beautiful.

  8. Beautiful additions! I am living in rug purgatory as I look and look for a new rug for our family room. I have looked at rugs similar to yours but I'm concerned it might look too country in our home (although yours doesn't, which has me considering it) and would it be too rough on grandbaby crawlers (we have several)? Opinion?

    1. Anne, this rug is cotton and not rough. It should be fine.

  9. The table is gorgeous, Kim! Really opens up the corner. You are so great at not "overdoing" your decor--I am trying to follow suit--but it is hard when there are so many pretty things out there. I can't wait to see your Christmas decor. I told my husband I am going to cut back--I don't know why he doesn't believe me :-)
